Question Baroque music has shown a fascination with action, to the extent of outright violence. It is a quality seen from region to region and irrespective of subject matter. The interest of action in baroque art was due to various reasons. At the baroque age in the 16th century, this was a time with many conflicts with a relation to politics, religion and even among the intellectuals. This is why painters in the 16th century viewed the world they lived in as a place of violence. This is why baroque art shows both dramatic and dynamic feelings (Harris pp.67). For instance, Michelagelo Buonarroti who was in the baroque age created a sculpture called ‘David’ that expressed both violence and anger.

In addition to this Michelangelo put together the Sistene ceiling in an orderly manner however, 30 years later he remodeled it and made it full of terrible panorama such that it appeared chaotic. Through this interest in action, architectural as well as painterly techniques were informed in that painters of this age started using a lot action in their work. The term baroque translates to mean that which has flaws and is irregular (Harris pp.135). With this in mind, Baroque art is usually, very emotional, stormy, has more dynamic styles is forceful, tense, has a lot of energy.

In actual sense, baroque art is a conflict existing between passion and reason of classicism. Most of the baroque artist’s architectural and painterly techniques show conflict. For example, Bernini David’s art sculpture of St. Teresa that he did in the Cornaro Chapel located in Rome. In order to come up with a hallucinatory effect, Berninis architecture, painting and sculptures had a natural source of light. Similar to artists in Italy, those hailing from the north used drama as well as diagonal lines and light.

For instance, in the “return of the prodigal son” art, theatrical light is used as the controlling element ( Harris pp. 168). Baroque artists used violence and action to convey religious themes for example to show the corruption that existed in church the catholic church painting known as Christ driving the money changers from the temple expresses anger. The baroque artists also used violence and action to enhance classical and secular subjects in that they would display things that were not sacred in their artworks.

Question 2The rococo style celebrated aristocratic excess and earthly pleasures at the same time that new intellectual the new intellectual developments were undermining the basis of aristocratic rule. In the broader political and social context, Rococo style started in the 1720s in France and went to spread all over Europe. People started imitating them such that even the bourgeoisie began to take up the French aristocracy. In terms of themes, Rococo art did not embrace piety or patriotism, moreover it did not put into consideration heroes or saints.

On the other hand, it expresses outdoor scenes as well as pastoral settings, mischievous behavior that has humor an example is the stolen kiss by Jean-Honore Fragonard (Harris, 235). The overall tone of the rococo art was lighthearted and graceful; for instance, le Dejeuner (1720-1760) by Francois Boucher, that shows the light side of how the upper class lives. In terms of the aristocratic rule that was there in the eighteenth century rococo art reveals that people who were poor or did not belong to the noble class lived pathetic lives accompanied with callous conditions.

It was mandatory that one to be in the aristocracy class they had to have come from an aristocratic family. Rococo art reveals a culture that is rising or in other words at its peak. This is especially because originally, it was from France but people the world over are imitating most of its features including fashion. This therefore shows that it is continuing to grow.
