Extract of sample "Importance of the Bible"

First of all, it must be noted that religion is not just a mechanic aggregation of moral guidelines: it is a system that constantly develops and gradually adapts to the new times. There is no doubt that since the emergence of Christianity, the world has changed a lot, it would not be logical to project the norm that was applicable several thousand years ago to contemporary life.

Secondly, one should also point out that not every verse in the Bible was designed to teach people a certain norm. For example, some passages from the Old Testament describe the way the people of Israel fought against their enemies and tried to secure their freedom in different ways. It is quite understandable that long ago when this nation was young some actions could be justified by the historical context, but at the present moment, such passages should be regarded as historical evidence, not a norm one should adhere to.
