The story explores the theme of vengeance is a deep sense as this paper will discuss. On the contrary, Medea is a tragic hero story that explores the life of a woman who was embittered by her husband Jason, after he had left her and her two children alone. The story explores a complex relationship between Medea and her former friends who view her as a lost cause that overreacts, and this pushes Medea into a range of fury in which she hopes to satisfy by revenging against her husband as she plots to kill various characters including her two children.

Although she feels that she might be bereaved by their death, she knows that the revenge against her husband, Jason, by making him feel as much pain as he had caused her, would be more satisfying to her. The first aspect of vengeance in both stories that is different is the terms of vengeance. Similarly, all aspects of vengeance discussed in both stories are complex and are focused on the theme of love. The aspect of love comes in both stories in a different way. For instance, in Odyssey, Poseidon - Cyclops Polyphemus’ father, loves his son so much that the fact that Odyssey blinded him makes Poseidon yearn to kill Odysseus to make sure that his son is satisfied and to feel avenged.

Similarly, Odysseus’ revenge against the suitors was because they had wanted to take away the love of his life, Penelope, while he was away. Love is also a primary motive for vengeance in Medea. This aspect is displayed by the fact that Medea loved Jason too much that his divorce appeared as a form of betrayal that drove Medea into a frantic quest for vengeance. Medea also understands that Jason loves his children so much. The love that Jason has for his children appears as a weakness to Medea, which she seeks to use against him.

As such, she plots to kill her own children with the primary objective of making Jason suffer and undergo the same pain she was
