Exploring an Object My object of discussion here is my laptop computer. It is made of different plastic components that are joined together through screws. Most of its physical parts are partly plastic and fiber. It has different colors ranging from bluish on the outer cover of the monitor to black on the bottom of the keyboard. Its keyboard surface is made up of bluish and traces of white color. Just like any other computer, its general make up consists of both the hardware and the software. Its hardware is made up the keyboard, mouse pad, monitor, and the power unit while the software consist programs that enable it to respond to commands in operation (Walton, 1997). Its overall weight is approximately 500 grams with much weight being on the bottom surface which carries several internal components. Its design is such that it can store power for a maximum of six hours after its batteries has been charged. It has two replaceable lithium batteries which are charged when their power reduces to a certain level. Its model is Acer and with a screen size of a10.1 inch wide monitor. Its power resolution levels are very high and as such, it serves me with ample quality time of work. It’s predominantly black in color with a keyboard marked in white. It has power portal as well as four other portals including the internet connection portal and another one for a projector. Its mouse pad is black with two command buttons, the right one and the left one. It has an internal memory speed of up to 200 gigabytes. It has a long power cable of approximate length of 2 meters. Its power button is on top left hand side of the keyboard with a camera on top of the monitor. The keyboard pad occupies more than half of its processing unit. The board has all alphabets which can be used for typing and its monitor displays a start menu when booted. It has a windows XP program runner. It also has other buttons including the digits ranging from digit one to nine on top of the alphabets and another set of the same on the right hand side. There are several other physical components on the keyboard. It has other buttons including the Shift, Spacing, Windows, Control, Caps lock, Tabs, Alt, Esc, among many others. These buttons helps in sending different direct commands of instruction in the process of computer operations. The Enter and Backspace buttons are very helpful in typing of information in the computer. Other buttons include the F1 all the way to F12 which aid sending different direct commands in the operation of the computer. It has two internal speakers that relay sound to the outside listener. It is capable of storing massive information inform of audio, visual or both. On the lower part of the keyboard, there are light bulbs of different colors indicating its operation when it is booted (Walton, 1997). My laptop helps me in boosting my personality in my academic work by enabling me store and retrieve information I will most important. It makes me develop a strong sense of emotional attachment that has made me depend on it. It’s capable of analyzing information when specific programs have been installed in it. It has two extra portals for an external speaker with an approximate overall weight of one kilogram. As a computer, it is of great help for research work in the field of academics and business as it is efficient in recording, coding and arrangement of data for research purposes. The portability nature of a laptop has enabled the adoption of computer use almost in every field of profession including education. It has been of importance in my academic work as well as in entertainment. With it I am capable of accomplishing most of my assignments and access my reading sources which are Internet based. Such portable computer like a laptop has provided a lot of convenience in every sphere of life. Laptop computer has the capacity to record almost everything put to it as a command, its memory that is made up of Read Only Memory (ROM) and Random Access Memory (RAM) can store every kind of data more efficiently than human beings can recall. The Laptop has the capacity to memorize diverse a mounts of information than the human mind can do at a given point in time (Walton, 1997). My laptop has a lot of importance to me both in work like besides entertainment. In studies it helps me in accessing the internet where I can get several learning materials and download. It has several files of my favorite music and movies that I am able to listen to and watch during my free time. It keeps me away from boredom in times am free from fiends or at home alone. It is my second best friend that I interact with everyday and every time with failure. My laptop does a lot of complex tasks ranging from math and many other approximations of sophisticate calculations like algebra and calculus (Walton, 1997). It has a lot of speed in the operations of math; these operations are done in millions per second. It can multiply over 10 million pairs of multi digit numbers in seconds. A laptop has the ability to store a he a mount of information and retrieve at high speeds when needed. When kept in good condition, every data stored in a laptop stays fresh and unblemished overtime as when it was first stored. Computers in general have changed so many things in our lives. They have made our world incredibly accessible and smaller through facilitation of communication. My interactions with family and friends who are not within my locality has become easy and faster with my laptop. Through the use of social media and the internet, my laptop has become a social hub. I have been able to communicate through Skype and face book at my convenient time through my laptop. In this way laptop as an object has increased the social ties among people in the society at large. As a garget it has other components including the CD-ROM through which information can be relayed into it. It also uses other information ties such as the flash discs through the various slots portals. These forms the means through which information in put in and retrieved from the laptop computer (Walton, 1997). Our modern society has been shaped a lot by computers, some of the experiences brought by computers are good and some are bad. When properly used it brings positive influence to our lives as human beings. But, unlike human beings, my laptop does not learn and heavily relies on following each command provided to it. Use of computers has led to the advancement of science and medical discoveries over decades. Computer use has become part and parcel of every activity we do. Ranging from supermarkets to car design, roads, clothing even the city traffic lights are all computer based operations. All around us has been influenced by the object computer in one way or the other. Computer has increased our imaginations beyond unthinkable realms of life. It has opened wide the doors of freedom of speech, it has the full control of our markets today, and it has aided in controlling laundering and fraud in government and private institutions. The influences of computers in our lives seem to have become permanent and there is no end in it. The control to such influence has become hard because most of it is seen as positive influence. The efficiency in delivering on an assignment or homework has become better with the use of compui9tere than before. There is no limit to what a person can learn as long as one has computer and is accessed to an internet. Knowledge on every field of practice has become a public domain because of the ease in accessibility through the internet. The world has become a global village due to the ease in interactions through various social sites in the internet. There has been a great improvement in service delivery and customer access due to the use of computers and internet (Walton, 1997). The operating systems in my laptop range in complexity and power. It contains different interfaces which are of different complexity in their operations. My laptop computer operates through what is referred to as a window in which different visible components gets placed. Computers acquire information through a server; the server provides information to the computer. The laptop processes the requests and relays back the requests to me through –its monitor. The commands are then run through the memory where the necessary data is retrieved from. My laptop is capable of other applications for leisure. Most of computers have various kinds of games that can be played with two or an individual. These programs can accommodate simple games that can be played by children to the most advanced ones. This makes computers versatile in their applications and use since they can accommodate every age group. As such, there is an increased dependence on my laptop as a source of information and entertainment a part from my friends, family, and books. The major concern with my laptop is on my eyesight, when being operated, the monitor emits a lot of light that is detrimental to the eye. A lot of questions have been raised on the effects of a computer to our health. It also has other costs that are associated with it such as those of maintenance and repair incase of a default. It also depends on electric energy as a source of power which implies that after every four hours its charger is boosted. Even though it consumes small units of power, it adds to the general monthly power bill (Walton, 1997). My fears on the influence of my laptop on me are that it may lead me into addiction and in turn affects my social capacity to interact with my friends or even relatives. In other words, one can easily become a geek a condition I would like to adopt whatsoever. Being used to computers also makes it hard for to keep reading the physical books as one will be used to soft copy documents. This may make one loose the ability to learn the basic skills of writing and reading of a hard copy point of view like a book. The intelligence of my laptop enables me to have massive storage of information that enhances my dependence on it. In conclusion my laptop computer has some of the most beautiful features of a computer that are preferable in general and in specifics. As such, I intend to keep it safe as I continue using it during my study period and even after words. In all, a computer has been both a great blessing to human beings when properly used. What computers can do today in a matter of minutes could take up to days for one to accomplish. As the complexity of a computer increases, the easier it becomes in the easier and more comfortable life becomes. As such, computer is a necessary object in the modern lifestyle of human beings (Walton, 1997). Reference Sean Walton, Computer Fundamentals, (1997). Read More
