Development and Management of A Visitor Attraction Introduction The report will cover many aspects related to visitor attractions. The visitor attraction site, which will be featured in this report, is the attraction sites within the jurisdiction of England. This is the Lake District. This attraction site is located in the North western a part of England, Columbria. This attraction site serves as the largest national park in England. The salient features of this site include the lakes and the fells. The mountain and the water falls provide beautiful scenery of the district lake. This site also serves as England’s major hiking and climbing center during the national contests. This attraction site is popular and it accommodates more than fourteen million tourists per year. This is a place, which is appealing to visitors of different walks of life. The place usually has the cultural value and the décor and ambience admired by the visitors. The visitor attraction attraction site is also abundant of historical significance. In this regard, the place is expected to have extinct animals like the white elephants and other cultural artifacts. The definition of this term is usually difficult because it encompasses many attraction geographical aspects. It is also known as a tourist attraction sites. The term accommodates all categories of people ranging from the most affluent in society to the poorest in society (Todd, 2008). The tourist attraction is usually refers to a place where local and foreign tourists visit to see wild animals and other cultural artifacts belonging to different communities. The attraction site can be a museum. Tradition sisters also possess man-made beauty items. England has had a big sector for tourism for a long time. However, the economic downturn of 2008 affected the sector. The sector is boost by many visitors from the Western countries especially the US. The revenue collected from the tourists was estimate at $5.9 billion in the year 2010 .This indicates that the national budget of the country is funded by the tourism sector. Dickenson and Houston (2008) conjecture that there was a record high of 5.4 million tourists from the international community in the year 2011.The major attraction site for the visitors in US include the Lakes beach, the . In addition, the rainforests, the Pantanal and the sand dunes contribute to the many features, which attract many visitors into the country across the globe. The number of international tourists in England started increasing between the year 2000 and 2005. There was a steady growth in the number of international visitors especially from the US until the year 2007, when the country faced economic upheavals. The steady increase was attributed to the appreciation of the British Real given the accumulation of foreign currency especially the US dollars. There was an increase of tourism revenue of $1 billion between 2005 and 2007.The visitors from German in the recent years reveal that German prefers the England attraction sites and leisure. This owes to the fact that the US visitors make up approximately 25% of the international tourists (Graham and Papatheodorou, 2010). The number of visitors from the US has steadily increased from since 2009, which is manifest of the economic recovery in Britain after the economic down turn of 2008 (Harrison, 2006).This can be reflected in the table below. Year Worldwide rank of Brazil tourists in Britain Number of Australia tourists Percentage of US tourists (%) Annual growth of US tourists (%) 2009 6th 241,000 4.66 - 2010 5th 257,719 5.13 0.47 2011 4th 277,182 5.53 0.4 These statistics show that the US tourists in England ranked the 6th position of the international tourist population in the year 2009.They ranked position 5 in the year 2010 and posit and ranked position 4 in the year 2011.The growth in the US tourist population reveals an increase of 47% between 2009 and 2010 (Harrison, 2006).).The percentage increase in the US population between the year 2010 and 2011 is 40% (Harrison, 2006).).This shows that the tourists from the US are increasing in every year. Therefore, British’s tourist attraction sites are appealing to the western nations compared to any other European nation. England has had insecurity for a long period of time. This insecurity includes crimes like robberies, pickpockets and murder. According to Knowles (2005), street mugging has also been a problem for the tourists not cautious while walking in the streets of towns like Amsterdam. The thugs target people who seem wealthy and careless. However, the rate of insecurity of has drastically reduced in the recent years owing to the security measures put in place by the government. Although the crime rate has dropped, there still exist criminals who are opportunistic in their attacks. Britain has tried to avert crime through giving guidance to the tourists in a bid to save them from criminal attacks. The tourists are advised to ensure that they always walk in huge groups in order to thwart any criminal conspiracy. The tourists are also advised not to use public transport at night because there may be thieves in disguise in the public transport vehicle. They should use private means regardless of the cost involved in this regard. In addition, the tourists should visit the city during working hours in order to avoid attacks. The US tourists prefer the foods prepared at the beaches like shrimps besides the tranquil natural environment and landscape. Moreover, the services offered to the tourists at the tourist attraction sites like beaches, are good. This contributes to the large number of the US tourists in England. The tourism sector contributes to a large portion of national revenues. The international visitors also visit to Britain in order to visit the business centers in major towns surrounding the Lake District. The economy of England has been boost by tourism given that it has resulted in increase in employment opportunities for the unemployed people. For instance, the many visitors necessitate availability of many tour guides and companies. These asssctivities involve many local British nationals. In this regard, the economic activities increase hence the income per capita has increased over the years. The tourism market in Britain is flooded with local salesmen and women. The local salespeople hawk light food like snacks hence increasing their personal income. Britain’s tourism is expected to grow at the rate of 7.8 in the future. This high forecast rate is due to the good prospects of the tourism sector in Britain. Moreover, the continuous increase in the population rate and high number of technology savvy people across the globe, will lead to realization of this tourism growth rate. The sector annually contributes a lion share of the gross domestic product. According to Moutinho (2009), the sector contributed $79 billion in the year 2011.This reveals that this sector is crucial in the British economy. The forecast growth rate will lead to an increase in the foreign reserves by $5.5 billion. In this regard, 200,000 jobs will be created hence reduction in the level of poverty and crime in the region. The sector accounts for 7.7 million job in Britain. The capital investment in tourism and travelling contributes to the increase in the growth rate of the tourism sector. Britain has established some tourism projects, which will boost the tourism sector. The development of the Lake District tourism is intended to reduce the unemployment rate, increase the per capita income and increase returns for the tourism sector. This will be achieved through consolidation of effort in crafting of a tourism product strategy, a marketing strategy and tourism infrastructure. Moreover, there is a need ensure environmental management and strengthening of the institutional framework. Worsley (2008) posits that the entire project is expected to cost an estimate of $187 million. The other projects underway are the executive execution, the drainage project and the panorama tower works. These projects entail strategic, managerial and operational level management. This implies that jobs will be available for the jobless population. Therefore, the disposable income per household will increase hence increasing the living standards of the British nationals. Todd (2008) claims that there will be installation of the state-of-the-art technological systems like the surveillance CCTV cameras in strategic points in order to reduce instances of street mugging and robberies. Virtual systems will also be installed in order to enhance the British tourism business across the globe. According to Yeoman (2012), the infrastructural development will enhance communication is easy all the time in order for the police to have easy time in patrolling the tourist sites. This project accounts for a large proportion of tourism development at the coastal regions of British. The boom in the tourism in British is also dependent on the policy framework of the British government. For instance, the supply and demand policies adopted with regard to tourism are sound. The policy technocrats proposed the unilateral supply policies in order to increase the number of tourists and tourism revenue. The policies, which raise the provision of tourism, are likely to excess supply of these services while the respective prices remain low. On the other hand, the adoption of policies, which increase the prices of tourism and decrease in the provision of tourism services, is counterproductive. Therefore, it is prudent to apply both supply and demand policies in order to attain the equilibrium level of demand and supply of tourism services and the respective equilibrium prices. Conclusion International tourists in England’s Lake District have immensely contributed in good performance of the tourism industry in the country. These tourists account for the majority of the US tourists in the Britain every year. In this regard, the British tourists have improved the economy of the nation given that the British economy is dependent on the tourism sector for capital and recurrent project funding. The Lake District has sufficient attraction sites including lakes, waterfalls and attractive sceneries. The sun, the sand dunes, the Amazon rainforests and Pantanal, are the major tourist attraction sites. References Dickenson, J., & Houston, J. M. (2008). England. London, Longman.
