Extract of sample "Contrast of Air and Road Transportation Systems"

Air transportation is an agile and swifter way to travel from one place to another as compared to road transport. Today the world has shrunk to a few hours when it comes to covering the distance from one country to another. Bearing the time factor in mind, air transportation is a perfect match to the needs and demands of businesses and corporations, as today's time is held tantamount to money. On the contrary road transport that includes private and hired cars and other locomotives scores low in terms of time consumption.

No matter how fast a car is, it has got to stop at traffic signals and has to make way for pedestrians, senior citizens, and children. In terms of time-saving air transport is definitely a must go, over road transport, for its capacity to efficiently commute from one place to another (Wensveen 48-52).Geographical barriers have become less significant by means of air transport as compared to the road transportation mode of commutation. Passengers experience a carefree flight from the country of origin to the destination.

The journey is usually a short and pleasant one, depending upon the physical and mental state of the passenger. On the other hand, road transport can be tedious, exhausting, and sometimes mind halting (Wensveen 48-52). With the presence of geographical boundaries and jurisdiction, road transportation is of limited utility and thus limits the options available to the traveler. As compared to air transport, road transportation provides an opportunity for the traveler to explore the world of nature and experience different cultures.

From a tourist’s perspective, road transport shall provide something that is unmatched to the air transport experience. Road transport provides the traveler with an opportunity to explore the world and learn about cultures. As a tourist moves from one place to another via road transport, it gives him ample opportunity to explore the world and experience the change and richness of life as a firsthand experience. This experience and exposure is priceless and can never be obtained through air transportation.

While traveling through air transport people get to see airports and sophisticated people entangled in the web of modernity (Blanchard 55-70). Road transport provides the individual with the tinge of local culture and the means to experience the taste and color of true life (Blanchard 55-70).In a nutshell, it can be concluded that road and air transportation are two contrasting modes of commutation. Each one has its own pros and cons and it completely depends upon the intent and appetite of the traveler to make a decision between the two.

On a general note if time is given precedence over cost then air transport will be favored while if experience and exposure are the underlying causes of traveling then road transport shall be preferred.
