Profile of the manufacturing company Murray Goulburn Co-operative was founded by dairy farmers in the state of Victoria, in 1950, in Australia. Its origin records back from soldier settlement region of northern Victoria, with its shareholders looking for a chance to maximize their returns for their efforts from local dairy companies. To date, it remains the most strong and most important to the dairy industry in Australia in 1949. Devondale smart plus milk gas reduced fat contents, contains high calcium milk and has supplements of iron, vitamins C and Vitamin D. Ingredients Vitamin D Vitamin D promotes the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the body. It contributes to a healthy bone structure and is also responsible for a healthy dental structure. The vitamin is also responsible for prevention of rickets in the body. A dietary Reference Value (DRV) nor the vitamin has not yet been established by scientists because of the belief that exposure to sufficient sunlight leads to sufficient accumulation of the vitamin. It moistly promotes absorption of calcium in the digestive system and maintains the nutrients calcium and phosphorus at their optimal levels .Without it bones tend to very brittle. It also modulates growth of the cell and is a key nutrient in preventing inflammation. It has also been said to play an essential role in preventing prostate cancer in men. This is done by heating it at 212 F for about 20 minutes. It is then cooled while taking care that it doesn’t get contaminated. It then undergoes homogenization which involves passing the milk through an atomizer. The aim is to evenly spread the fat component throughout the milk as it tends to float on the top. The next step is separation. It involves putting the milk in a centrifuge and then spinning it with the aim of separating the cream from the milk. They are later re-mixed to produce blends with different fat contents as desired. For Devondale Smart Plus, the fat component is 1.1g per 100ml. The milk then undergoes further processing to prolong its shelf life for the brands intended to last for long periods such as Devondale Smart Plus. This is done through UHT (ultra high temperature) treatment. (Kishor 2007) It is then packaged for delivery to milk stores, supermarkets and other retail outlets. Packaging is done using machines.
