Literature Review According to Vaughan-Nichols (2010), Hypertext markup language (HTML 5) is a formatting language that web designers utilize for the purposes of developing documents on the web. The HTML 5 is the latest version of the markup language and it was developed from the previous versions. This is for the purpose of increasing the efficiency of websites as well as adding new items on the website. The web designers are able to utilize this new version for the purpose of creating unique designs of the websites they are developing.
This version also supports various features on the website unlike the previous versions. HTML 5 enables the users to watch videos directly from the website without the use of plug in. This is an important feature of HTML 5 and it has led to the phasing out of some concepts that were used before. It is also possible to view the pages on the web that is written by HTML 5 using web browsers such as Google chrome, Mozilla and internet explores. HTML 5 is not software and does not require installation by the user however; the user has to ensure that the browsers used can support it.
It is also important to note that HTML 5 is increasingly becoming common in most applications including the smart phones. This has played an important role for most of the smart phone users as they can easily access items on the website using their phones directly (Ford, 2009). The HTML 5 is equipped with tools that make it easy for the design of a website. The tools are easy to use and hence simplifying the process of web design and development. The technology has editing tools which are quite efficient during the development of the website.
The editing tools have been updated in this version for the purpose of accommodating more features. The drag and drop editing tools are the features that are supported by the application and are useful in the web design process. Through this application, it is possible to incorporate the e-Commerce features in the website. This is an important aspect of any business as e-Commerce is increasingly becoming a common method of carrying out business through the internet. The features that can be installed on the website through this application are much better and easier to use as compared to the previous versions of the application.
The weaknesses that existed in the previous versions have also been solved in this new version and hence making it more efficient and reliable. It is for this reason that most of the companies are endorsing the use of this new version and hence making it one of the emerging technologies in the world (Jackson, 2012). HTML 5 is considered to be an emerging technology due to the features that it is able to support. Most of the features that it supports initially required other applications for it to be operated.
It has also created a new trend in the technological market by phasing out some of the technological tools. According to Barth (2009), Adobe was initially used for the purpose of watching videos on the website but this was changed by HTML 5 which enables the internet users to watch videos directly. It had a negative impact on Adobe as it was forced to halt its features on the mobile phones. The use of this tool is an emerging technology as it takes care of all the requirements of the web developers and hence adding value to the quality of the websites developed.
It also puts into considerations the issues found in the current specifications which are relevant to the designers and the users. This includes the ease the use of tools relevant for the design and the features that are required by the users. Being the newest application in the market, most of the browsers ate supporting it due to its wide range of applications. This also contributes to the efficiency of this application which is increasingly being supported. It has a great potential in the future as most of its features are flexible enough and targets various features which are useful in solving the problems facing web designers and users (Hung, et al, 2006).
