The video concerning the “The Hard Times Generation” from the CBS News as produced by Robert G. Anderson was about the story of the homeless childrenwho were primarily affected by the financial crisis, and is entitled “Homeless Children: The Hard Times Generation” (Pelley, 2011). Just the thought of this homelessness for these unfortunate children can be enough to bring us to the underlying thought about such special concern on their health. They suffer from hunger, and eventually malnutrition.
Such could be a depressing moment for them. Seeing other kids out there with almost everything to sustain their survival could be emotionally or psychologically disturbing for these less fortunate victims of the hard times brought about by the financial crisis. One subject who was interviewed as shown in the movie report depicted this underlying scenario. Thus, hunger and malnutrition are essential issues that the government should consider, because they all involved the future health status of the nation.
These children, provided they do not have stable health condition due to malnutrition could be the primarily carrier of infectious or deadly diseases in the future, which could be a great risk for the state. One thing for sure that affects these children can be attributed to the economic status of the state. Many households are vulnerable to suffer from poverty once the economic aspect is hit by the hard times. In line with this, there should be some mitigating factors and in fact, emergency actions that should seek to address the concern of poverty that may hit at any time.
Policy makers should provide elemental and workable plans or options that are to work harder especially in tough economic conditions. Nurses and other clinical practitioners are then expected to contribute their expertise and services in helping the government solve the above-stated-economic and social condition.
