Commentator Sharon Moshavi The story that was presented in the audio file is extremely useful since it allows one to make an interesting observation about microsociology of Japan. To begin with, it would not be a mistake to point out that social interaction in this country is largely guided by different traditional rules and regulations that result in a rather rigid social stratification with foreigners becoming a group of people who are treated as outsiders on every level of social interaction.

In addition to that, the story would argue that increased density contributed to formation of social pressure and avoiding eye contact is largely regarded as an effective tool to ease it. 2. What is more important is that the story in question provides some macrosocial observations as well. Thus, it is quite obvious that the Japanese culture adheres to the principle of avoiding conflicts; so, this means that any part of social interaction that is possible contribute to building tension between the citizens is adjusted.

In other words, preservation of harmony in the society is considered to be the highest priority and is largely accepted as a guideline for the people. This suggests that the Japanese society operates on principles that are different from those of the American one.3. It is beyond any doubt that the role of the commentator as well as her social status has affected the manner in which she experienced social interaction. Speaking of the former, one should note that she tried to integrate herself in the social environment.

In other word, the commentator did not play a role of tourist who is temporarily visiting the country, but rather a person who is willing to stay there. The latter is often opposed to by the Japanese; so, there is no wonder that she faced a considerable amount of rejection that manifested itself in avoiding eyes contract with her.As for the social status, one might point out that the commentator is not only a foreigner, but she also belongs to a different race. As a result she is different from the majority of the people who are around her in two fundamental aspects.

That may contribute to the understanding why her socialization features so many obstacles. As a result, the commentator has to face not only the difficulties that are spawned by the peculiarities of the Japanese society, but also have them amplified by other factors that found make her stay in Japan rather problematic in terms of social comfort.Speaking of my role and the way it is different from one that the commentator may be accustomed to in the United States, it would not be an exaggeration to suggest that I do not tend to participate in the social interactions with strangers rather actively.

In other words, I may be the carrier of the culture that the commentator refers to as her native, but I have a set of personal beliefs that do not allow me to exchange glances with the stranger as easily as others do so. In addition to that, whenever I touch a different person in the street, I tend to wipe the touch off immediately.
