Language- a prerequisite for freedom In the work of Charon, language has been termed as the mechanism that teaches others what to think, and how to think (105). This is to mean that through language, individuals are able to think and interpret matters that that concern them in the society. Charon continues to argue that it is through language that societies in Egypt and Greece were able to discern what is vital and what is real in the society (106). From this argument, one would conclude that language is a prerequisite for freedom.

Through language, humans clearly understand and discuss their inner thoughts to the society (124). In a sociological perspective, Charon clearly indicates that creation of a symbolic language, through the self and the mind creates a situation whereby freedom prevails in the society (123). Language brings out human beings that are free, as they are able to socialize a great mile through language (124). Through language, the development of the minds and the way of thinking is achievable. In this case, therefore, it is not possible to be free devoid of language to think and govern the thoughts and actions of an individual (126).

The essence of the human being comes about through the socialization process. Socialization, in this context, is only possible through creation of language, the development of the self and the mind (340). Conclusively, thinking is controlled by the language, an aspect that leads to proper thinking and valid social construction of reality. Reflection of aspects that may simply be described as freedom shows the importance of language in creation of freedom (342). Work cited Charon, Koel. Ten Questions: A Sociological Perspective.
