Criminological Research Task Introduction Criminology is the technical analysis of the form of the crime and its generation within an individual and society. Criminological research is a discipline that is charged with articulating the nature of criminal behavior (Wincup & King, 2007). However, some measures in criminological research weigh the amount of input invested in curbing the spread of criminal activities. This paper seeks to analyze some types of criminological research and a brief description of each.

Cohort StudiesThese studies are used to refer to when the research is conducted among individuals who are born at a given time and the study conducted within a geographical area. Cohort studies ambitions are based on the criminal acts of a cohort when comparing it to another. It analyzes individual progress within the mentioned cohort within a given time. The disadvantage this study presents may be in its uneven distribution and accuracy of the data collected distorting the overall result. However, it offers new development to the subject of criminology via creating wider socioeconomic effects on crime, picking on variable social attributes like racism that influence crime.

Experimental ResearchIn this method, the researcher applies deceptive measures to control the thoughts of the subject. The subjects are swayed via verbal and written procedures. It may involve the utilization of subjects that are familiar to the researcher.Through random allocation of subjects and control, factors allow the testing of hypothesis simpler (Jupp, 1989). It is rigid because it may not apply analysis of variable hypothesis.ObservationObservation entails careful monitoring of the behavior under consideration within its natural setting (Lewis, 2002).

Sometimes known as field research, observation leads the researcher to collect the results first hand. Its advantage lies in its provision of behavior monitoring in its origin. The researcher can acquire results from those incorporative subjects who may not fill questionnaire. However, it may be applied on a small group for larger subject groups may lead to errors. It is also expensive and tasking.ReferencesJupp, V. (1989). Methods of Criminological Research. London: Routledge.Lewis, R. (2002).
