Global patterns: Question It is worth mentioning in context of global patterns of heat and circulation that two principal water reservoirs in the water cycle on Earth are the atmosphere and the oceans. With increasing incidence of global warming Earth is heated up more and more with every passing year due to which the extent of Arctic ice has tremendously reduced (Bergman & Renwick, 2005, p. 96). Millions of square kilometers of sea ice have been lost due to increasing temperatures. The increased heat of the sun causes more water to be evaporated from oceans which is absorbed by the atmosphere and carried around the world by air and which explains the pattern of circulation of water.

Due to increased evaporation, the air becomes moist-laden which when blocked by the mountains causes low precipitation. Question 2 General consensus is that tropical areas are areas of high pressure which receive much direct sunlight. Air is unstable in other areas which do not receive direct sunlight but tropical areas particularly tropical rain forests are situated proximal to the equator so it is rainy there for most of the year because these areas receive direct sunlight. As these tropical areas are major receivers of sun heat so during warmer months in the summer time, pressure is raised and it rains more consequently.

This explains why wet season arrives in the summer time. The principal factors explaining high rainfall during summer time in tropical rain forests are related to the position of the sun and hot moisture-laden air which together play a potential role in turning air into rain.
