Log Table Table of Contents Basic Research 3 Chapter 5 Chapter 2 7 Chapter 3 9 Introduction, Conclusion and The Question 11 Bibliography 13 Basic Research I was really excited with the assignment and commenced the process of research as soon as I was assigned with it. Once into the research, I found out that the topic is a much debated one. The topic of conflicts in between Arab and Israel is vast one and most importantly, the conflict has been continuing for long. I tried to get hold of the basic facts like who are known as Arab and why did they have the conflict with the Jews. The basic search also included the history of formation of the modern state of Israel. At the outset of the week, I had very limited knowledge about the various aspects of the topic i.e. the conflict of Israel and Arabian fraternity. But as I continued the research throughout the week, I came to know about the major happenings on the issue that I was not aware of it earlier. I learnt that the root of the problems in the area lies with the British theory of partition or dividing the state of British mandate of Palestine in to two parts. Also, I came to know in the week that the formation of the state of Israel was basically based upon religion and many of the local inhabitants of the regions opposed the formation since outset. During the initial days, I developed the logical research skill. As prior to the week, I did not have much of the knowledge in the international politics, therefore I could not relate to the happenings of the middle east. But with the advanced research skills that I inculcated in the week, I could easily relate one thing with the other with respect to the happenings of the conflict in between Arab and Israel. The part of the research that was quite well done by me includes the understanding of the basic reasons of the conflict of the conflict like that of religious and political factors among others. The part that has been quite challenging in the periphery of the research has been that the reason of repeated failures of the conflict resolution techniques. It was quite difficult for me to comprehend the reasons of repeated failure of the resolution process at least when it was affecting huge amount of resources for both the parties. As the basic research was complete, I planned to write the chapter 1 in the next few days. But for that, I needed to have more clear understanding of the topic. I planned to read “Plans for peace: negotiation and the Arab-Israeli conflict” by K. A. Feste and “The Arab-Israeli Conflict” by C. Sanker. Chapter 1 In order to write the chapter 1, I was required to provide much of my time for researching the various basic issues of the conflicts. The areas of my research during this week included the analysis of various reasons that were responsible for the ongoing conflicts in between Arab nations and that of Israel. The reasons comprised of the differences in the political outlook and the religious agendas of the people of the two areas. To have a deep understanding, I focused upon various books upon the topic as well used internet extensively. Before taking up the research of the week as well as before the commencement of writing the chapter 1, I was not sure about the issues that have contributed towards such a long lasting conflict in between the nations. Also, it was in this week that I came to know that there existed various other reasons apart from the political and religious reasons that cause the conflict like the lack of mutual trust or the debate over the control of the water resources along with the security concerns for the Israel. During the week, I developed various researching skills. Apart from the books, the skill that was pointed out has been the various other sources like that of internet. Other than writing and knowing about the reasons of the conflict, the chapter also comprises of adequate research regarding the various conflict resolution techniques that have been prevalent in between Israel and the Arabian world. The area of the research that was quite easily done by me was those parts that comprised the reasons of the conflict and the failure of the international conflict resolution mechanisms. Among those parts of the chapter 1 that was quite tough for me at the outset includes those that areas that comprise of the recent changes in the regional politics of the Middle – East like the nuclear power of Iran or the involvement of Hamas and Mossad into the conflict. After the successful completion of the chapter 1, I would plan to complete the basic research for the chapter 2 in the next few days, so that I can easily get a flow of the chapter 2 and could learn from the process of writing the details of chapter 1. The book named “The Israeli-Egyptian Peace Process in the Reporting of Western Journalists” by El-Nawawy and “Deterring America: Rogue States and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction” by Smith commenced the process of research for the purpose of Chapter 2. Chapter 2 In the third month of the assignment, I started with the Chapter two of my project that focused upon the wars and as I emphasized upon the Sykes - Picot Act and the British Palestine Mandate, the reasons of partition and the effects that were faced because of creation of the state of Israel. The chapter 2 has been very informative for the purpose of researching and writing of the paper. As the chapter deals with various important measures that have been crucial in the formation of the state of Israel, therefore it can be said without doubt that the research for the chapter helped me to learn the intricacies of the regional politics of Middle – East. The reasons and the effects of Sykes – Picot Act, the disastrous idea of partition and he formation of the state of Israel are some of the prominent areas that are covered in the chapter. This chapter of the paper has facilitated me to use the internet sources with which I was not confident earlier. I can look into the various internet sources and choose the most realistic and the trustworthy information that augments the research work along with consulting the books. The thing that has become pretty clear with due time of the research is that the root of all evil has been the Sykes – Picot Act and other agreements that resembled the partition of the region creating the state of the Israel. As the state was basically formed on the basis of religion, therefore it was sure to be havoc problems. The most challenging part of the chapter and that of the week have been the reasons of initial Syked – Picot Act in the region and the role played by Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) on the formation of the state of Israel. As the chapter 2 comes to the end, the focus is turned towards the writing of the chapter 3 that the research paper deals with. The chapter 3 essentially deals with resolution of the conflict and the measures taken by the international community for the purpose of resolving it. Chapter 3 As the chapter 2 of the paper gets over, the emphasis of the paper lays on the final chapter of the paper. The final or the third chapter basically depends upon resolving the conflicts among the contesting parties of Arabian nations and that of Israel. During the month, in order to have more focused research, the conflict resolution techniques supported by the international community is also considered. At the start of the research, I was not sure if enough measures were initiated to resolve the issue of conflict among the Israel government and the Arabian nations (especially that of Palestine). Also, I was really doubtful about the role played by the United States. But once into extensive research, I could say that United States tried its best to solve the conflict though it was of little real help. As I reach almost the end of my research, I can say without much hesitation that the assignment has improved my researching skills and abilities by huge extent. While at the outset, I did not possess enough knowledge to research from the internet and present such data in a coherent manner after analyzing in the most logical way, in the later days of the assignment I can myself feel the way of change. I could well refer to the various sources of internet and present the research in the best possible way. While preparing the chapter 3 of the project, the research and the presentation skill has been that of the best quality. I could follow the instructions quite easily and locate the various reasons of the conflict in between the Israel and the Arabian nations. It was also observed that this long lasting conflict failed to get resolve time and again even after the involvement of the international community. The role played by Bill Clinton, the then President of the United States and that of the European Union required special mention. Reaching the last phase of researching and writing, there were no such areas that could be too tough for the purpose of research. In other words, while many of the areas asked for mental toughness or quality but none of the research was not – doable. In the next few days of the research, I plan to provide the last impressions upon the paper. I study the materials used so far more deeply so that the materials that are used till now can be used for further research to provide an impacting introduction and conclusion along with an apt question for which the paper provides an elaborate answer. Introduction, Conclusion and The Question Introduction - In order to write an effective introduction, it is must that the section provides deep yet succinct view of the entire scheme of things that were happening with respect to this burning issue. The section encapsulates almost all the major events that took place in the history of Arab and Israel conflict since the early days of second world war. In the last part of the introduction, it is informed to the readers in an efficient way that what these chapters are actually dealing with and the questions raised and answered in the chapters. Conclusion – The effective conclusion of any research paper includes the brief analysis of all the points that have been discussed in the various sections of the paper. In other words, conclusion provides a short but repetitive view of the arguments that have been proposed and validated in the paper in support of the thesis. The section of conclusion includes the present happenings of the conflict of the Arab and Israel authorities. It also deals with the various conflict resolution methods that are inculcated both at the international as well as regional level and also the reasons for which it is perceived that it cannot attain the desired success with respect to the conflict resolution. Questions – The essay basically deals with all the minute and intricate details of the age old conflict of international politics of the Middle – East i.e. the conflict in between Israel and Arab nations. The question asks why the conflict continues for such a long period and what were the reasons for repeated failure of the conflict resolution techniques both at the national as well as international levels?
