Motivational Theories and Factors Management professionals and supervisors always keep serious attention on practicing various motivation techniquesamong the workers to facilitate healthy competition in work fields. Motivation in the work place plays a vital role in promoting success and the motivation level of the employees has changed .Absence of effective motivation causes dissatisfaction and it decreases productivity. Therefore, implementation of sufficient motivation techniques helps individuals to enhance performance and commitments.
Experts in the field of management describe various strategies and techniques for motivating their employee .It are noteworthy to mention that a good listener can show the performance of a good motivator. So, it is better to be an active listener of others and we can motivate effectively. Invest more time with the workers and perform as a pure listener to them. Presence of supervisor or manager gives various concepts of motivation like responsibility, confidence, loyalty and commitment to the employer.
Stefanie Hoffmann observes; “These concepts not only provide motivation in the sense of increasing performance but also the loyalty and commitment of the employees to the organization” (Hoffmann, 2007, p. 111). Rewards are essential part of motivation and rewarding the outstanding achievements of workers or employee provides them motivation. Find different methods to appreciate the achievements of people in public. Rewards include gifts, financial supports, and certificates, lunch programs and initiative board.
It is important that exact communication is essential for why the employee is being rewarded or appreciated. To understand the strength and weaknesses of the employee is an important responsibility of an efficient manager. Help employees if they need special assistance and coaching .An efficient manager eliminate the weaknesses of his worker and enhance their strength through help and assistance. Through arranging an informal meeting we can create an atmosphere to share the feelings and suggestions of both employees and managements.
It is significant to allow each and every person to speak their problems, suggestions, demands and wishes about their work fields. Here, we can understand the problems through various perceptive and this help one to enhance his own motivation level. There are a number of motivation theories and concepts are common among the managers and job providers. Reinforcement theory is considered as widely accepted motivation theory which focused on what controls behavior. Reinforcement theory underlines that behavior is reinforced by external events.
Unlike, reinforcement theory, Equity theory describes that the level of motivation in an individual related to the perception of equity and fairness implemented by the management (Lesson:-20: Motivation and Its Theories). In terms of equity and fairness practiced by the managements or organization, the level of motivation will change. Greater equity promotes the acceptance of higher level of motivation. Exponents of Equity theory argue that an employee makes comparison between the input that he gives to the company and the benefit which he gets back.
Both Reinforcement and Equity theories share some common features. Both of them underline the role of external events in providing motivation. Studies prove that financial incentives promote work performance among the workers and employees. It is logical that both employees and employers consider money as the basic incentive for satisfactory work performance (Houran & Kefgen). Effective implementation of financial incentives helps one to facilitate his or her motivation level. Effective implementation of financial incentives acts as an effective motivation technique in workplace.
In conclusion, it is evident that motivation techniques play a vital role in promoting success and productivity. Various motivation techniques are common in work field and all these techniques helps individual to enhance performance, commitment and loyalty towards his company or organization.
