25 May Accounting: The specific duties and responsibilities in the job of accounting are primarily to conduct the financial reports’ analysis. An accountant may occasionally experience pressure from the management for any lost data. In other cases, when a discrepancy is found between the real sales and the records maintained by the accountant, the accountant is taken to task if he can not make a rational explanation for the difference. In order to be successful as an accountant, an individual needs to be present minded, agile and active, and watchful of the ongoing activities.
The accountant should be perfectly skilled in the use of computer, MS Office and accounting softwares. Accountants should preferably get certified to become the certified public accountant (CPA). The individual needs to take accounting courses in the college. “As a general rule, a CPA must have a four year degree, while accountants without certification can get by with a two year degree” (Smith). An accountant should have very good interpersonal skills in order to gain success and satisfaction in the job.
The accountant is supposed to frequently interact with the colleagues for necessary information. Therefore, he should have perfect mannerism, and should be extremely professional in his speech. It is very important for an accountant to be decently dressed because he has to visit the manager’s office several times a day. People like several things about the job of an accountant one of which happens to be the environment in which the work is conducted. Accounting is done inside the office. There is little to no field visit.
The accountant is responsible to feed the data received from the site into the computer, update the data according to new purchases and sales on regular basis, prepare the balance sheet and forward it to the top management for information. Mostly, accountants are provided with a well furnished and air conditioned office for work. Accountants get a decent salary. (CareerToolkits) gives important information about the salary range of an accountant, which is as follows: Public accountants, especially those with their CPAs, can expect to earn around $50,000/year.
The smallest accountant salaries reported in 2006 were around $35,000/year, so even accountant starting salary estimates are at a decent level. On average, accountants with a master’s degree started at about $3,000/year more in annual salary than those with a bachelor’s. (CareerToolkits). Some of the satisfactions provided by the job of accounting are pick and drop facility, handsome salary package, facilities, and good working environment. Demand for the job of an accountant is never likely to decrease because wherever there is business, there is accountancy!
Moreover, computers can not replace accountants any more because computers have always been into accountancy. In fact, the accountant fundamentally requires computer for the work. Both the computer and the accountant are necessary for the job of accountancy. Without any experience, a fresh college graduate would not be put much load on. In fact, fresh graduates are made to sit with experienced accountants for quite some time before they are assigned the responsibility on the individual level.
Accountancy is as suitable for women as it is for men as a job (JobsJournal). Now that I have researched the career of accountancy, I feel it is the right career for me because I would like to do a job that contains lots of mathematical work and is done inside the office.
