The close reading of the Old Testament gives a clear idea about Christ and his life and the Old Testament along with the New Testament is equally important in the biblical cannon. There are lots of theological publications that build up our idea about the Old Testament but the book “Survey of the Old Testament” by A. E. Hill and John H. Walton is a landmark in the history of the discipline. Andrew E. Hill is a PhD from Michigan University and is an associate professor of Old Testament studies at Wheaton College and John H.

Walton is a Ph. D from Hebrew Union College and is a teacher of Old Testament and Hebrew at Moody Bile Institute situated at Chicago (Wheaton College, n.d.). John H. Walton is an author of several other Zondervan books which includes Chronological and Background Charts of the Old Testament too. The book is an improved version of its first edition. It is improved both textually and geographically and is based on a widely accepted survey of Old Testament for undergraduate students (Wheaton College, n.d.).

The book contains comprehensive information recorded in 608 pages and the book simply reaches far behind rephrasing biblical material. The book is well illustrated and is a crystal clear handbook for learning many theological issues regarding the Old Testament. The book contains a long list of abbreviations and the book is divided into several parts indicating several phases of the Old Testament
