The US Army and Leadership The US army exists to serve the nation of America and their citizens by protecting and enduring the national interests in order to fulfil the responsibilities of the US Military. In order to achieve all these successes, there is a need to get competent leaders who values the based leadership and accessing professional competence. Military leaders should endure professional qualities in order to achieve success in their various missions at all level across.An army commander plays a major role to the presence, character and intellect to the top leaders proficiencies whereas it gives guide to other members towards the main goal and mission accomplishment. However, as in most cases the direct leaders have influences to other people they should on the other hand encourages hard work, instructsand recognizes great achievements of other individuals. The US military was made up of lifeblood army who ensured changes in the United States Army. The US army leaders were ready for any challenges that may come before them in order to handle with great solders that have risen through hardships and from range of qualified professional solders who always accomplishes their missions with great intelligence(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The challenging and complex circumstances could provide ground for leaders who were expected to make wise, timely and effective decisions to achieve the mission. The army leaders were therefore, assigned to take responsibilities by inspiring the influences of individuals to accomplish the US organizational targets. The Army on the other hand was expected to motivate both internal and external people to pursue actions, shape decisions and focus thinking for the best to the organization. The Purpose and Roles of Leadership in US Army The US Army military requires leaders who are capable of making appropriate choices and joining direction for an organization. The leaders were therefore required to influence people by providing the society with facts, direction and motivating individuals to achieve the mission in order to improve the organization status (Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The US organization was expected to have multiple foundations for checkups and access situations to provide input decisions. The leadership in US is taken as the process of influence since the leadership doctrine was endorsed in 1948. Leadership in Army of US as an element of combat power unifies other elements such as mission command, information, intelligences, fires and protection(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The Army is unable to accomplish its mission unless all the Army Solders, Leaders and civilians accomplishes their various missions of planning of budgets, parking of preventive war facilities, vehicles repairing and filling status reports. Moreover, each responsibility and role carried out during the operation is always unique but there must be a way in which the leaders interact to achieve the best by ensuring that everybody in the Army is a member of the troop either as a leader or as a follower. The Officers in the Army of US holds their ratings and agencies under the commission and the Authority of the President of the United States and the secretary of the Army(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The rating and agencies are granted to the elected officers on the basis of special trust and confidence by the President. The military officers are essential in Army organization of the United States by establishing policies; manage resources and commanding units during the operations thereby balancing the risks by offering care for their people and families. The Army officers are always accountable for the responsibility for their command. They always focus at all levels during the operationto accomplish the Army’s mission of US. On the other hand, the Warrant officers possess a high degree of specialization in a specific field since every warrant officer in their respective field of specialization are capable of commanding aircrafts, maritime vessels and other special units(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). Warrant officers are capable of providing quality councils, advises and solutions that are able to provide support to the organization unit. They are capable of maintaining, administering and managing the US Army equipment by providing support to solve some of the technical matters. The noncommissioned officers (NCOs) are always in a position of conducting daily operations, solving complex tactical operations and making determined driven solutions. However, most of the solders look for their NCOs for solutions, inspirations and guidance(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The US NCOs leaders are always responsible of maintaining high quality standards and discipline since they are regarded as the standard bearers and role models by creating education, critical training and subordinates. The Noncommissioned Officers are responsible for care to the solders and acting as the role models.They take part as trainers, mentors and advisors. The Army civilians are professional personnel who are committed to serve the nation as the integral part of the US Army team. They give extra support to the solders by providing mission essential capability, continuity and stability during the war and peace operation(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The Army Civilians establishes and executing policies by managing Army programs, systems and projects that helps the organizational Army.Their selections are based on the eligibility of holding position. The Army Civilians provides support to their counterparts by remaining loyal for long period of time within the same organization to provide continuity and stability. The Unified Action Partners is made up of the government supports, intergovernmental association by coordinating with the non-governmental groups and the private bodies. The Unified Action Partners plays a major role in changing the makeups and the capabilities of the united teams. Levels of Leadership The army leadership in US is based on three levels based on direct, organizational and strategic that is based on values and attributes. The direct leadership skills and actions level of leadership takes opportunity on individual and small group task oriented perspective. The leadership is based on face to face by leaders at all time. The leaders working under direct leadership are close enough to actions in order to address the problems.The organizational leadership skills and actions take the perspective of the organization system(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). Organizational leaders have great influence to several people.They create policies and favorable environmental climate to the subordinate leaders.The leaders are expected to have visits to remote areas to verify staff reports and briefings. The US military organizational leaders are expected to influence people through face to face contact, incorporation and policy making. The strategic leadership skills and actions take the perspective of covering the national and global. They include both the military and civilian leaders. They establish force structure, communicating strategic visions, allocation of resources and preparing their commands and their Army for future progresses. The strategic leaders work over large areas where problems are complex and are required to consider congressional hearings, army budgetary constraints, research development civilians programs and the new system acquisition. The strategic leaders in the US military are best catalysts for change and transformation by exerting primarily influence through the staff and trusted attendants. The strategic leaders must develop solid skills in selecting and rising brilliant and proficient leaders for critical duty positions. The decisions made by the strategic leaders have great influence on people, politics, time and resources. Collective Leadership When leaders of various levels and aligned for a collective effort, there is high probability of creating greatest amount of collaboration to achieve the desired objectives. Effective governance in the US military is always depending on the arrangement of direction, purpose and motivation. However, leaders’ working in isolation mode produces limited results. Leaders working together are not only coordinating in organizing actions but by sharing convictions on how to create and preserve the positive climate. The unifying and collective aspect in leadership is essential element of military. The Army Leader: Person of Character, Presence, and Intellect Army leadership doctrine tries to explore the aspects of governance most especially to the Army leader. The examination tries to highlight critical attributes all army leaders in order to meet complete professional capability from being a direct leader to strategic leader(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The development of the desired attributes is associated with presence of intellectual abilities through learning of foreign languages, training and experience and education to produce well rounded leaders in the US military. Foundations of Army Leader Character The character that is composed of theperson moral and ethical qualities helps in determining the right and motivation to the leaders in order to carry on with what is appropriate with regardless to conditions and penalties(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The US army leaders are expected to embody values such as the Army values, empathy, Warrior Ethos and Service Ethos and Discipline in order to inspire other people. Army Values The army values require any militant to take oath to serve the nation fully by accepting to live by the act of the set ideologies of army leaders. The army values are made up of the principles, standards and qualities that are expected to be essential for any successful Army leader (Army Leadership of United States, 2012). Army values are fundamental to the Solders and Army Civilians by helping in making desired conditions at all levels. Teachings about the values create a common understanding of the expected standards to the US Militants. There are seven values that all troops of US were to be aware of is composed of the Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless service, Honor, Integrity and Personal courage (LDRSHIP). Loyalty is required to all Solders and Civilian Army to swear an oath that helps in supporting and defending theUnited Statesconstitution by bearing the true faith and commitment. Loyalty is attained through trust during training by fair treatment, living the army values and good training. Duty of the United States Militants is to fulfill the nation’s obligations. The duties are designed beyond the orders, law and regulation by the professionals. Respect provides the militants to treat people as they should be treated on the basis of Geneva Convection(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). Geneva Convection is a law body that tries to instill respect to the US Solders. The Army leaders need to work with other individuals to full fill various purposes and work together with wide range of individuals from various backgrounds. They are therefore required to learn various cultures and being sensitive to other cultures by appreciating what others find appropriate. Self-service is required to the US Solders by ensuring that they put in first place the welfare of the nation, the army and other subordinate before considering theirs(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). Most residents of United States refer military as “the Service” and selfless since they are expected to do what is always required to the nation, the army, organization and to the subordinates. The requirements of the US nation and the Army are expected to come first. Though, the system doesn’t imply that the leaders should neglect their families and themselves. Honor provides moral conducts to the Solders. The Solders live and abide with the Army Values. Through respect, how the Army leaders conduct themselves to meet their targets define them as leaders and how the Army meets it objectives defines army as an institution. Integrity Army leaders consistently abide with the clear principles. The United State Army Leaders are expected to do what is right, legal and moral (Army Leadership of United States, 2012). They are expected to have high moral of standards and honest by not representing themselves in any action rather than remaining committed to speak the reality by instilling the army values. In order to remain honest, whenever there is doubt, the leaders are expected to consult the mentors for judgment. Personal Courage is required to US Soldiers are expected to face with fear all the dangers with absence of fear(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The Solders are expected to put fear a side and do what is required to the well-being of the nation and the Army. The effective Solders are required to be both physical and moral courage that overcome fears. Empathy is all about deeper understanding when relating to other people situations and feelings. The system provides close relationship between the army and the Army Families. In order to build a strong and ready force, the Army leaders are expected to promote healthy Families at all levels. The need for leader empathy extends above the Army Civilians, Soldiers and their families. The warrior ethos and service Ethos are professional belief and attitude that is characterized by the American Soldiers. The Ethos reflects the selfness of the Soldier to the nation, fellow Soldiers, unit and mission. The warrior ethos is advanced and persistent through discipline, pride in the Arm’s custom and commitment to the Army Values(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The Warrior ethos suggests that an American Solder will remain warrior to the team. Will never accept defeat, will never leave a fallen comrade, will serve the people of United States and live with the Army Values. The US Warriors are the guardians and freedom of the American way of life. Though, the Warrior ethos is important but not durable. The ethos tries to connect the present American Solders with the ancient Soldiers who contributed to the American existence. Discipline is a common need to every individual within the society. Discipline is the ability of controlling one’s own characters (Army Leadership of United States, 2012). The United States Army Values requires discipline to all Soldiers in order to do what is necessary. Discipline is the mentality of an organization to practice constant systematic actions in order to meet the capability to perform military activities. Discipline is required for an effective and long term efficiency administration. Basics of army leader presence The impression a leader makes on others greatly adds to the success in leading others. The militants of US are always expected to be fit by having the sound health, strength and endurance that can sustain the emotional health and theoretical abilities under extended stress. The military and professional bearing of the US Soldiers asserts that the Army leaders are expected to act as professionals(Army Leadership of United States, 2012).They are therefore required to use professional bearing fitness, courtesy and proper military arrivals that can easily make one to overcome toughcircumstances. However, confidence is needed to make abilities to work accordingly in any given situation. Moreover, the resilient leaders are required since they can easily recover quickly from injuries thereby maintaining the missions of the organization. Basics of an army leader’s intellect The intellect of the US Army helps in solving and sound judgment before implementations of the concepts and plans. They make an individual to be creative and argue out analytically, critically, ethically and with the consideration of the cultural sensitivity. Mental agility is a flexibility of mind, andcapability to anticipate andadjust to unreliable or altering situations(Army Leadership of United States, 2012). Agility facilitatesrational through second- and third-order effects when current decisions or actions are not generating the preferredoutcomes. Innovation defines the capability of introducing something new when required and when an opportunityoccurs. The United States Innovative leaders tend to be inquisitive and good problem solvers. Being innovative includes inspiration in creatingunique and meaningful ideas. The United States leadershave control over their emotions. Leaders should show the right amount of understanding and desire to tap into subordinates’ feelings, instead of hysterics or lack of emotion. Sustaining self-control stimulatespeaceful confidence in the team. Self-control inspiresresponse from subordinates that can develop understanding of what is really trending. Conclusion Through engaging in army, none can prove with evidence that the current method of character development can lead to desired intuitional achievable goals. The inadequacy of broad understanding on how to access and develop personal behavior reduces the army ability to examine its efforts in this regard. The army makes assumptions of excessive operations and hardships if it doesn’t meet the challenges of creating personal behaviors of the leaders. The army takes part in developing some tactical and technical abilities for the leaders. However, despite the fact that the character is intimate componentof efficacious leadership, the US Army still could believe that individuals can develop themselves to higher levels that are desired to the Army but with little and through unclear guidance.
