Sales and Marketing Personnel Introduction The Hellmann’s Mayonnaise is a product that will certainly do well in South America. According to statistics, South Americans prefer to use Mayonnaise as a dressing as opposed to ketchup. Richard Hellmann, a German from vetschau, Germany, owned a delicatessen in New York City. He first sold his readymade mayonnaise from the delicatessen where it became very popular. He then proceeded to distribute the mayonnaise in bulk to other provisions. He put up a factory to produce Mrs.

Hellmann’s mayonnaise in 1912. Greater sales and marketing practices led to his success (Hellmann’s & Best Foods, 2013). Specific skills needed in sales and marketing personnel. Sales and marketing personnel should know how to use software programs used in marketing. For example, a person may not be able to use graphics art works, but he can use desktop design to outline the concept he wants. This shows that the individual is creative and resourceful. They can use their creativity to create great slogans for every variety of the mayonnaise.

The objectives of an organization keep changing depending on market conditions. Therefore, it is important for a sales and marketing personnel to be flexible and able to adapt to the changes of the organization. A good sales and marketing personnel should come up with flexible strategic roadmaps instead of using rigid one-year plans (Dizik, 2011). In addition, a good sales and marketing personnel must be capable of integrating classic concepts with modern marketing techniques to create a balance between the two.

It is prudent for marketers to know how to prioritize actions based on what the customer wants and what the organization wants. It is common knowledge that the top most goals for all organizations are profit maximization. Therefore, a good marketer has to strike a balance in delivering both needs. This means that advertising for the mayonnaise should be set to the targeted customers. Moreover, the marketer must keep up with other professional organizations and blogs to know what the competitor is working on.

The creator of Web Marketing Therapy and marketing expert, Lorrie Thomas, says that marketers should understand how mobile marketing trends could influence the business (Evers, Anderson & Voskuijl, 2005). Moreover, learning to use Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization could benefit the organization. The search engines can provide statistical information on buying trends of customers during specific seasons. However, these concepts are still foreign in some organizations. Search engines like Yahoo, Bing and Google can help the marketer in solving day-to-day dilemmas.

It is also important for marketers to have interpersonal skills and teamwork (Dizik, 2011). Criteria for selecting sales and marketing personnel This process involves giving the right job to the appropriate personnel. A personality or aptitude test is presented to the potential candidates especially if they will interact with other people. Marketing of the mayonnaise will require a great deal of interaction with both customers and suppliers. This test will help to determine how an individual will react in certain situations.

There is a need for some level of intelligence when it comes to sales and marketing. It is important that the marketer or salesperson comprehends what the consumer wants. It helps an individual to be capable of interpreting statistical data provided on the consumer market trends for the mayonnaise. In addition, this job may require physical strength and fitness. Marketing involves door-to-door advertising in some instances. In order to reach customers in remote areas, advertising by word of mouth is essential.

In most cases, this may involve moving the products from one point to another (Evers, Anderson & Voskuijl, 2005). Training needs of personnel recruited Identifying what the employee can do and what the organization requires is very important. Apart from having the needed skills and knowledge, it is prudent that an employee is able to follow instructions and perform the required tasks. On-the-job training for employees is the best because they learn as they work. In addition, they are able to watch other employees work.

This will help them to learn fast. Employees will need training on the demographics. For example, they need to know their target customers, and the location that holds the highest percentage of mayonnaise consumers. Induction training is essential to the recruit because it helps him to become familiar with the organization. Moreover, employees will need training on the competitor’s trends and behavior. For example, they need to learn the competitor’s strategies for advertising and marketing their products.

In addition, employees should receives training on receiving and dealing with customer complaints as soon as they come (Chevalier & Mayzlin, 2006). Occupational Health and Safety rules are very important. Therefore, there is a need to train personnel on adherence to the provisions provided by the OSHA. The recruited personnel need to know the goal and objectives of the organization so that he can devise ways of attaining the goals. However, it is also important that he receive training on integrating his own personal goal and the organizational goal.

This ensures that both the individual and the organization benefit (Brooks, 2004). References Brooks, W. T. (2004). Sales techniques. New York: McGraw-Hill. Chevalier, J. A., & Mayzlin, D. (2006).
