Extract of sample "Developing Networking Communication"

In an article written by Leimback (2012), it was revealed that the skills which would be useful at a networking event to ensure communication for building success include the following: (1) application of appropriate personal style in leveraging and understanding the requirements and resources for the event; (2) discerning networking events that would strategically provide rewarding returns; (3) effective application of planning skills; (4) being able to empower and engage human resources for the event; (5) showcasing expertise in networking; (6) establishment of beneficial relationships; (7) effectively assessing and tapping opportunities; and (8) delivering or even surpassing expected value (Leimback, 2012). Other important skills that would assist in a networking event include effective communication skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills, marketing research skills, and the ability to maximize the use of resources to minimize costs and optimize profits.

One organization which could serve as a network to learn about jobs in sales and marketing is the Sales & Marketing & Executives International, Inc. located at PO Box 1390 Sumas, WA 98295 USA and could be contacted through their official website: HTTP://www.smei.org. Their contact information is through this number: 312-893-0751; and as disclosed, they could be contacted through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, blog, and radio (Sales & Marketing & Executives International, Inc., 2012).

Another website, Career Profiles, listed other associations that provide ample information on jobs in sales and marketing such as the Association of Investment Management Sales Executives (AIMSE) and the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) (Career Profiles, 2013). The AIMSE is reported to be located at 12100 Sunset Hills Road, Suite 130, Reston, VA 20190. Its contact information includes TEL: (703) 234-4098, FAX: (703) 435-4390 and their site disclosed the information on conferences and upcoming events where members could appropriately meet, as required (Association of Investment Management Sales Executives, 2013). Finally, the SMPS is located at 123 North Pitt Street, Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314 with the following contact information: 800.292.7677 (Society for Marketing Professional Services, 2013). It listed the upcoming events where members and interested parties could meet with them at the indicated schedule and venue. One could therefore network with these groups through contacting them on their respective official websites, or through their contact information and other social networking sites, as indicated.

Networking and building connections are essential skills for sales and marketing through the provision of crucial and relevant information that promulgates and perpetuate sales and marketing endeavours. Like the associations above mentioned, through these skills, interested parties or stakeholders of different organizations could forge alliances with member associations and groups to promote their endeavours, as required (Strategic Business Network, 2011). Relationships building and listening were seen as crucial elements to succeed in sales; in conjunction with sincerity, ethics, and asking (Michaels, 2011). As emphasized, “As Internet communication technology developed and more applications could be added to a social networking site, the number of features available to users increased drastically, adding to the sites' success” (EBSCO Host, 2013). Thus, organizations rely on social media to promote various activities and events more effectively than any other contemporary medium.

To improve the effectiveness of one’s resume in terms of enhancing communication and marketing potential, one has to develop and design a resume that should rise above the rest and be noticed by the prospective employer (Career Profiles, 2013). Traditional resumes are those that are typically structured formally. Nontraditional resumes are noted to include “more than a list of your employment history on a typed page or two of paper. Most of these types of resumes focus on a visual impact and include graphics, photos and/or video. Types of nontraditional resumes include infographic resumes, video resumes, online resumes and social resumes” (Doyle, 2013). The advantage of traditional resumes is that they conform to the structure and style expected by contemporary employers. The disadvantage of this is that it takes a lot of creativity and innovativeness to design one which would be noticed above other applicants who could be submitting virtually similar formats. On the other hand, the advantage of nontraditional resumes is that they have the potentials to stand out; while its disadvantage is that these could be weeded out by employers who use a software or system for screening applications using the traditionally designed format. As emphasized, in contemporary times, employers even opt to have applicants submit an electronic resume over paper resumes to enable these employers to effectively scan the applicants according to their screened variables and needs (Gunner, 2000).
