Introduction to leadership College: Introduction Personal development plan (PDP) is a way of creating opportunities in a systematic manner by addressing the objectives that you have set forward in life by setting clear goals and ambitions. PDP also entails making a decision on what kind of a person you want to be and the position that you want to hold in life as a result of your contributions to your life (Glanz, 2002, p. 43). Individual development plan uses the strategy that emphasizes democratic decision making by the workers. The mutual decision-making is necessary enhances the development of the organization. It is important to engage the supervisor or the manager when drawing the plan because it is him who is going to assist the employee in realizing his goals. The SPECIFIC skills, attitudes and behaviors you need to develop Proper skills and behaviors are important in any workplace. For instance being creative and innovative helps in developing clear insights into situations. It is imperative to create a serene working environment that inspires invention and innovation. Invention and innovation in the workplace will lead to quality goods and service delivery. Moreover, creativity and innovation go hand in hand with strategic thinking. Another important in the workplace is the maintenance of resilience. In any workplace there have to be setbacks; however, it is important to be optimistic and persistent. The pressure that develops from the workplace should never get you down; instead they should be ways of learning new ideas on how to be active in work. In addition, it is important to be flexible in work. Flexibility is important especially when there is need to adapt to new changes. Furthermore, with flexibility the worker can adjust so fast to issues that need attention. Integrity and honesty are also necessary in the workplace (Rickets, 2001, p. 45). It is essential that an employee maintain trust to fellow workers. One should behave in a way that suggests respect and ethical manner towards others. Integrity instills the spirit of commitment to work. Moreover, ability to solve the problem is also crucial to the employee. The worker should be able to identify the problem and get the most informed decision to solve the problem in amicable way. There should be evidence that the change is realized. Activities to undertake so as to ACHIEVE your development goals The first activity is to set specific goals. The goals should be well defined with clear objectives. Furthermore, it is important to be precise and explicit to the point such that you are geared towards an actual. Another activity is setting attainable goals. The worker should never be over ambitious such that he sets goals that are too huge to achieve. In that case, therefore, the worker is supposed to consider the surrounding environment that will influence the possibility of attaining the goals. On the other hand, the goals should not be understated but challenging. It is also important to set relevant goals that are within the realms of the workspace. They should be relevant to the field that you are working. In addition, it is of great essence to set the time- bound of realizing the goals. The time limit keeps the worker motivated because he knows what he wants to achieve at what time. How to MEASURE and review the outcomes The outcome of PDP is measured by looking at the set goals whether they have been achieved or not. How the level of the achievement will depend on the specificity of the goal. The outcome should be positive when the goals were set right. Furthermore, the review of the issue can be followed by the steps that were put forward in attaining in attaining the development plans. However when most of the strategies that were set are not achieve, it means that the personal development plan was unsatisfactory. Validity and consistency are also important in reviewing the development plan. For that matter, therefore, the goals that have been achieved should be consistency with the objectives what was in the development plan. There should be evidence that the change is realize Question 2 Methods or processes available to determine work plan priorities The initial procedure is to view the overall layout of the work plan. By taking an overview of the project, the developer can know the objective to give the priority. The second step is defining the component achievement of the work. From there you determine those who contributed to the accomplishment of the goals. The building team is critical in helping an individual in the achievement of the purpose; therefore it is important that an employee recognize their efforts. The fourth process is to change perceived performance by giving each and every one of them priority (Tracy, 2008, p. 95). That will help the plan developer not to give wrong prioritize to any element of the program. Another step is to determine how to check the progress of the performance. The last procedure is to plaid the performance strategy versus the processes that you already put. Managing time in achieving work plan objectives One of the ways to manage time is by delegating the duty. Again flexibility leads the expansion of service delivery because there will be more working hours that leads to an extension of time for delivering the service. The styles and approaches to leadership which would be used in different situations to encourage productive working relationships Democratic leadership: in this style of leadership I will use the members of the staff in making decisions. In this case, I will encourage creativity and every member will feel that they have a hand in the in the production process. Further to that the employees will have job satisfaction, therefore leading to quality production. I will employ the style when there is enough time because it entails taking a lot of time. However, the last decision will depend on my judgment as the leader based on the decision made by the team. Another style of leadership that I will employ is autocratic leadership. I will use the method when a quick decision is needed. Moreover, the method is appropriate when I don’t see the need of involving the staff members in decision-making. The third style of leadership is Laissez- Faire. Ii is a kind of leadership whereby the employees have the freedom of doing their duties the way they want without supervision. The style is important when you want to know responsible employees who can take their duties without supervision. Moreover, it is necessary for cases whereby the leader wants to eliminate irresponsible workers. Another style of leadership that will lead to the productive outcome is charismatic leadership. It is a case whereby the leader leads by example. It is the character of the leader that acts as a driving force for other employees. Furthermore, there will be trust among the employees and their managers that will lead to proper coaching and mentoring. Team building also encourages commitment to work. It is because the employees will motivate one another in the work hence enabling perfection. Every employee in any given sector needs motivation. Therefore, it is important to motivate employees where necessary. Motivation can be in the form of gift, incentives, promotion. Moreover, it is also important to involve workers in decision-making, that way they will feel that they are valued in the process of production. During decision-making, employees are part of objective designing; thus they will take it upon themselves to realize these goals. Workers deserve respect however little their position could be, therefore as a manager it is important to uphold respect within the organization. The responsibilities of a first line manager for safeguarding team welfare One of the key responsibilities of the first line managers is to provide the structure and the direction of purpose to the team members. In any organization, the employees are supposed to be assigned duties and be given a reason as to why they are doing the duty. The direction will enable the work towards a given direction. The manager is also charged with the responsibility of promoting equality and diversity. The manager should give equal treatment to the employees regardless of their diverse background like culture. With that environment, the employees can develop their abilities. Moreover, he also manages discipline and complaints from the employees. Lastly, the first line manager is responsible for recruiting and training of the staff so as to enhance the existing team. How risks that can affect team welfare are identified and monitored and the appropriate actions One of the ways in which the risk can be identified is by observing the behavior of the employees. For instance, when an employee has become obscene to the manager is a threat to the organization. Therefore, the manager should investigation the cause of the bad behavior and take appropriate action (Sims, 2001, p.78). Moreover, the inspection of the work environment can be a way of identifying the risk. The management can reorganize the workplace by bringing in new materials and eliminating those that are hazardous to the employees. Again the management can also consult with employees so that they can know if at all there is what poses a risk to them. In curbing such a risk, it is important that the management take immediate actions. Bibliography TRACY, B. (2008).
