Management In management, success is referred to as the ability to apply professionalism in attaining certain goals set for our businesses and lives.It involves the achievement of the most desirable goals by a manager in his career or life. Success involves the positive results that a person receives on his or her actions (Witzel 21). After meeting with the manager of Apple Corporation, I was able to ascertain that there are three strengths and weaknesses that determine success. The strengths a person should have include the ability to establish goals that are consistent with your values and ethics, understanding and working with different people, and the use of effective communication styles. A manager could also have several weaknesses which would in turn distract him from achieving success in his career and life. This factors include the lack of self disclosure and having a lot of mistrust along with the lack of self awareness. He could also find failure in his or her endeavors if he fails to empower himself and the other people working for his organization. The strength in establishing goals consistent with my values and ethics will greatly assist me in achieving success in my career, life and effectiveness because of the qualities that I display. The process of setting goals involves setting the milestones you most desire achieving in your career, life and efficiency levels. The problem solving process is better carried out in a step by step fashion. This process involves setting the priority for your goals though in line with your values and ethics. I am very strong in terms of establishing realistic goals and working through them until I achieve the results that I desire. However, I have problems in laying the blame on others in situations where I fail and will need to start taking full responsibility for my actions. This is despite the fact that I am a highly motivated person. The realization that I am the only person who has the power to realize my goals enables me to work harder. It enables me to make appropriate choices of my team member’s in regard to increasing my efficiency and success. This is because the goals are personal and do not affect the public. Making these changes will enable me to realize my goals but desisting from them will make me shift the blame to others. The lack of realization of my goals in my career, life and effectiveness will make me a very unhappy person. The manager suggested that the ability to understand and work with people from diverse cultures would enable me to achieve success in my efficiency, life and career. Diversity refers to the process of differentiating groups of people based on their distinct features. People could be grouped into two depending on their different dimensions. These groups can be termed as either principal or secondary groups. There are different ways that can be used to improve my working relationship with others. For example, I can opt to work in a different nation so as to get this experience. I will be able to develop new relationships with unfamiliar people who might be productive to me. I have a problem in relating to people from diverse backgrounds and greatly need to advance my skills in this field. Advancing my inter relational skills will help me to avoid stereotyping since the vice deters my ability of achieving success. He also suggested that I will require to develop an open attitude towards strangers. This is because some of them could be beneficial in the achievement of my goals. As a manager, success is easily achievable among the workers in foreign environments who know the languages in use. The manager suggested that I would also need to communicate effectively. Effective communication involves the exchange of concepts, considerations and information between different parties (Witzel 35). I have learnt various types of communication methods from my management class which include the oral, written and electronic types. All these types of communication are applicable in different contexts at the workplace and in life. The mastery of management can only be achieved once these communication methods have been perfected. My communication ability is quite strong as I am very vocal in speaking for our collective and individual rights. While communicating, I am honest and direct and this qualities will enhance my ability to achieve success in my career, life and well being. Taking responsibility for my actions and shifting the blame from others is also essential in determining my levels of success. I will require making correct and accurate assumptions while at the same time pushing for corrections from wrong doers. Their imperfections could result in distractions which need to be avoided to ensure I get success in my endeavors. Failure to request for corrections from my colleagues could result in communication breakdowns, which eventually result in problems. In addition, to the strengths mentioned above, the manager also suggested that failure to achieve success could be brought about by several factors. These factors include the lack of self awareness, self disclosure and mistrust along with the failure to empower myself and my workmates. Self-awareness helps in bringing success to a person’s awareness (Witzel 47). A person’s inability to agree and consent with others brings about quarrels in the workplace. This results in the person failing to keep his promises. The inability to accept mistakes and make corrections in my endeavors could also lead to failures. This is because I always have misconceptions of being right. Acceptance of mistakes brings about corrections, which eventually result in success in our efforts. The lack of self-awareness leads one into continuously making errors that could result in failures. Another weakness that would greatly hamper my attempts of attaining success in my career, life and well-being is the lack of self-disclosure and mistrust in the workplace. The lack of trust in a team and the refusal to accept feedback on one’s performances may lead to failure. I lack the ability of disclosing my issues to others and trusting strangers with my issues. This circumstances could easily result in failures and betrayal from our colleagues. I lost trust with people after being betrayed for a long period. The presence of trust in a group eases the level of interaction between the members and they can collectively work towards attaining certain goals. Better working relationships will enable my efficiency in achieving my set objectives because there will be cooperation from my mates. The final weakness that the manager suggested would hinder my attainment of success is the failure to empower my workmates and myself. The failures could result due to poor leadership skills and the inability to display positive traits such as loyalty, trustworthiness and punctuality. The inability to delegate duties and power to our colleagues also brings failure since our imperfections are not corrected. The presence of these barriers greatly hampers the attainment of success in my career, life and well being. This is because there will be no responsibilities given to my workmates thereby reducing their accountability. The levels of job satisfaction among my colleagues will be reduced and will negatively impact their efficiency. In order to enhance my effectiveness, career success and well-being I need to adopt several measures according to the manager. I will require to improve my awareness, self-disclosure and be able to trust people to some extent. I will also be required to establish goals that are consistent with my values and morals, comprehend others and work with diverse groups of people. The act of communicating effectively and organizing effective business meetings to achieve results will greatly advance my chances of obtaining success. Lastly, the manager suggested that for success to be achieved in the workplace, the act of leading and empowering others is very crucial. This is because it results in high levels of performance from our colleagues, which in turn enhances our chances of success in all our endeavors. The discussion that was carried out with the manager of Apple Corporation helped me learn various issues. I was able to learn that success does not just come into a person’s way but comes through hard work and the implementation of several issues. These issues greatly contribute to the success that one achieves in his career, well-being and life. They include issues such as increasing one’s awareness and acquiring and maintaining the trust of mates. Improving on self management, establishing goals that match our values and morals along with effective communication are also crucial. The manager suggested that success was greatly influenced by the skills one had in listening to others along with the above issues. The persuasion of others while making of positive impressions among one’s mates is important in determining the success achieved. All these factors along with the ability to negotiate for one’s goals in life and at the work place influence the levels of success a person achieves. I tend to agree with the manager on the issues that affect a person’s level of success in his career, life and well-being. In conclusion, the most important strengths a person can have to attain success in his life are establishing goals that are in line with your values and morals, and communicating effectively. These enable the achievement of success by an individual or a group through the creation of enabling environments. A person will require the expertise of understanding and working with diverse people. This expertise helps in reducing the chances of conflicts occurring in the course of performing their activities. However, success in one’s activities may be hampered by activities such as the lack of self disclosure and the mistrust of colleagues. This is because the lack of trust limits the level of interaction with colleagues. The lack of self awareness also limits the levels of success that one will attain. This is because it hinders my ability to work without preconceived concepts. Failure in empowering oneself and our colleagues could result in lateness, mistrust and lack of loyalty in striving to obtain the set goals. These factors are likely to influence my attainment of success in my professional and personal lives. In order to achieve success in my professional and personal life, I will need to take several measures. I will have to remain stronger in creating realistic goals that are also achievable. This will be accomplished through initiating small activities and staying with the goals to the end. I also need to learn how to take responsibility for my actions. This is despite the fact that I am a highly motivated person since at times I find myself shifting the blame to others. I will have to discard these behaviors to ensure that success comes to my career and life. I also need to realize that I am the only who has power to realize the goals I have set for myself. In performing my duties, I intend to be open to any parties who might offer assistance to me since this might propel me to achieve success. I also need to realize that nobody else will push for the attainment of my personal goals. With these in mind, I will be able to put all the effort required towards obtaining my goals individually. The making of these changes in my approaches will enable me to become happier even when I do not achieve my set goals. This is because I will be able to reconsider my goals and become more realistic about the outcomes of my activities. Finally, I intend to make changes in the manner I normally shift the blame for my activities to my colleagues. This move will enable me to accept setbacks and remain happy even when my goals have not been achieved. This is because the relationships with my colleagues will not be affected and could still receive some positive advice from them to handle other situations.
