He presented a few of the governing principles which had a great impact on his professional life. These include the continuous thinking process, striving for perfection, and crediting people. One has to critically evaluate different situations while identifying flaws in financial transactions or any particular deal. Sports Management is somewhat different from all other businesses since it involves greater enthusiasm and love for sports. Hence for professional and successful sports managers, it is essential to dive into the craziest sports spirits. Establishing a business is not a one-person job therefore significant human resource is required. However, a leader’s job is to empower their employees to increase their productivity and also achieve organizational goals. This can be easily done by giving credit and valuing employees’ continuous efforts.

Sports management is not the same around the globe and hence the speaker should have discussed the contemporary sports issues not only in our country but also in some other parts of the world. This was important because he made an address to international students. These future graduates would probably go back and pursue a sports management career in their own countries. It will subsequently require them to analyze their regional sports issues and hence they must be to understand sport management in terms of different nations and regions.

One of the most interesting perspectives which I identified in his speech was that of crediting and motivating people within an organization. People make the real foundations of any company and their role becomes even more important when it comes to sport management because the sport itself is a typical representation of team performance. For instance, I remember in high school I used to be a member of a sports club. Due to my good communication skills and interest in sports, I had a very close association with the club manager. I used to often get impressed by his exceptional leadership skills and the way he used to manage internal conflicts among different individuals. The key element behind the success of his teams was his appreciation of others’ work. He never used to negatively criticize any player while directing sportsmen toward better performance. His significantly strong code of ethics and principles enabled the entire team to always perform best. Teams are recognized by their people and people are evaluated based on strong relationships with one another. Another crucial responsibility of sports managers revolves around building close relations among their employees because only then he would be able to utilize them to achieve company goals and objectives. I believe that sports management cannot be learned without passion and a strong desire to be a leader. The same factor was initially emphasized by the speaker when he credited his sports background to the parental side. Interest, experience along with environmental support makes up the best sports managers.

Apart from motivating and encouraging people, sports managers have to develop a greater understanding of different operations, media relations, conflict resolutions, team building, marketing, finance, etc. (Sports Management). The manager has to have a very critical view of every activity undergoing in their organization especially when the company has to perform internationally because the negligence of small issues might result in a poor organizational image. One of the best ways to excel in sports management according to Lussier is to first identify one’s particular skills and abilities. Thereafter the managers should concentrate on training and development while reviewing the real game plan. This should be further associated with formulating an effective mission statement, resource allocation, process systems, and applying the right managerial concepts (Lussier). Abiding by the governing principles of sport management is also significant, for instance, managers have to apply strategies that are directly associated with organizational activities and the overall environment (Smith).
