Medea also chose to kill her own children in addition to killing her husband’s bride to be. Her rationale is that even though the children did not do her any wrong, their death would be the most painful punishment that she could mete to her husband Jason. So, she proceeds with killing of her children. Although the play was not very successful when it was first played in the theaters during its times, it is said that it later become very successful as the audience identified with the plight of Madia, sympathizing with her despite her crimes.

The sympathy that Media gets is a good explanation hat crime has no proper definition and what may be defined as crime in some instance may be defined as punishment for wrong in other instances. The sympathies she gets is because she comes out as a simple woman who is desperately trying to be in control of her life, in a male demanded world. The King was willing and able to exile her form Greece in order to make sure that she could not hurt her daughter then ran and the marriage between Jason and his princess was possible.
