The setting contributes to the mysterious atmosphere of the book by not stating exactly when, or in what year, the events occur. It makes the reader understand how it feels to be uncertain and controlled by an outside authority, much like the main character feels. The main character is the sleuth Luke Harding, who is smart and cunning. He is quick thinking and can solve any problem even though he is only sixteen years old. He is the youngest forensic scientist to ever exist in the future society of the book, and he works with his robot sidekick, Malc.

Because he is not always perfect, it is easy to relate to Luke as a person and not just a novel character. The villain is the killer is nicknamed “Diamond” and can be described as clever and malicious. The plot starts when Luke goes to solve his first crime, when an arrow is shot through a student, Crispy, on the playing fields. Soon two others, including a professor are killed. Luke is suspected because his prints are on the arrow and he is the school’s top archer. As Luke and his sidekick Malc learn more and more about the mystery, all the clues point towards him being the killer.

In order to clear his name and keep from being framed, he must find the real killer, with the help of Malc and his secret girlfriend, Jade. Luke does this because he doesn’t get nervous when he becomes a suspect. He keeps calm and solved the mystery.
