The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a novel written by Mohsin Hamid, a Pakistani novelist, which centers on the 9/11 attack in America. The destruction of the WTC divides the narrative into the period before and after 9/11. The novel is based on the narration by Mr. Changez to an American guest of his fascinating life story. Before 9/11, globalization became a symbol of economic prosperity across the globe. However, the narrative shows how the 9/11 bombing led to cracks and fissures in the post-9/11 scenario.

The novel rightly expresses how the event resuscitated the global divide based on language, race, and culture (Jarandikar & Jarandikar 2014, 56).The article by Australian Security Industry Association Limited focuses on the findings of the Victorian Law Reform Commission that lawful occupations and industries are facilitating the operations of criminal organizations and organized crime (Australian Security Industry Association Limited, 2016a). Organized crime today has moved from the usual avenues that law enforcement was used to and taken up new opportunities in legal businesses and professions.

The article recognizes the fact that sometimes professionals assist in organized crime with or without their knowledge. The article, therefore, recommends that the best way to ensure that lawful industries do not end up facilitating organized crime is by introducing regulatory regimes in each industry (Australian Security Industry Association Limited, 2016a).From this article, I have learned that the law plays an important part in issues of security. Contemporary issues concerning security that are not legislated are first investigated to ensure that there is a need for regulation and to identify the areas that such law should cover.

The law provides the framework or mechanism that is to be implemented to fight security threats. In most cases, the law is introduced after observations have been made regarding a certain event. Even in matters of crime, the law is enacted after certain events have been observed and the need for a regulatory regime established out of these events. The article by Fleur Anderson focuses on the cybersecurity strategy in Australia. According to the article, such a strategy and the available equipment and manpower in cybersecurity means that Australia has the ability to defend against cyber-attacks and also carry out such attacks (Anderson, 2016).

The article begins by giving the details of the cyber-attack on the Royal Melbourne Hospital that led to the shutting down of the hospital’s pathology department. The article also explains how companies and government agencies have been affected by cyber-attacks and have in the past failed to disclose such attacks while, in other situations, there have been disclosures of such attacks (Anderson, 2016).This article has taught me that disclosure is an important aspect of security. Government agencies and other public institutions should disclose important security details about their ability to defend and launch attacks as a way of assuring citizens of it's their ability to protect them.

Today, most governments do not disclose their manpower and ability to defend against certain serious crimes. I have learned that the failure in disclosure is harmful to security efforts because it becomes a breeding ground for criminals to radicalize citizens. The failure to disclose the attacks and the government’s capability to launch attacks means that criminals can create propaganda that the government is responsible for certain attacks hence making them appealing and convincing to the public.
