Chaotic and Non-Chaotic Evil As far as evil is existent in the world, it can be argued that it is highly unlikely for evil to exist without the consequence of chaos. However, in some circumstances as will be revealed in this text, it is possible for evil to prevail without the presence of chaos. In addition, one can argue that evil can exist without the actuality of evil being felt. In order to have a deeper understanding of the two scenarios, it is important to understand the meaning of chaos. Chaos is a situation of utter confusion or total disorder (Iversen 56). Classical examples given in an article “when evil is cool, can be used to give more insight on the above two paradoxes. An idle man summons a window glass vendor whom he had seen from six stories below. He goes on to ask for a tinted glass. Afterwards, the idle man kicks the vendor and drops a vase on the vendor. Evil is shown through the planned chaotic actions of the idle man. The mess created by the broken pieces of glass presents a chaotic situation. In this case, the chaotic acts of the idle man are accompanied by evil. A situation where evil exist without evil is depicted when the wanderer went on a quest to discover the unpardonable sin. On his return, he finds a lime-burner who leaves the kiln for him to take care of overnight. The wanderer had realized that his quest was a wrong move and having nothing to share with the villagers, ends up burning himself. The wanderer had set off without an intention of committing evil although his mission was already an evil one. His intentions were not to cause affliction to anyone as he even thought that he would be commended for a job well done on his return. Later on, he burns himself thus resulting in an evil act. Evil without the presence of chaos it is depicted here because as soon as the wanderer sets off to seek the unpardonable sin, he already had committed an evil deed without his knowledge ( Iversen 89). He had not planned to commit the evil deed though his action of burning himself shows that he later on realized he had committed an evil thus resulted to killing himself. The renegade of Avignon story is about a treacherous man who had planned on committing evil for long. His action led to the death of his wealthy friend who had accommodated him and given him. The planned actions of the treacherous friend set his friend to fail in order to take all his property and left him for dead. This is a situation where evil exist accompanied by chaos. The following are more examples of instances where evil and chaos prevail. The first five are hypothetical typologies while the latter three are historical cases depicting evil at its peak: A patient in hospital who is a key witness to an ongoing case in court is killed by his doctor. The intention of the doctor was to avoid the truth from coming to light as the hospital staff stood to lose their jobs if the patient testified. The case escalates and the hospital staff is laid off. The doctor is sentenced to life. A man is in a disillusioned state after his wife left him for another wealthier man plans a plot of murdering the two. He resolves to poison them by inviting them for a drink in his place. In the end, the sad man mixes the drinks and fell victim of his evil plan. His wife also dies leaving the wealthy man bewildered. A house help and the man of the house go behind the wife and start of a relationship. This goes for long and in the long run, the help gets expectant. On realizing the circumstances that surround her after being told by the help, the wife is angered beyond words and ends up pushing the help. The help falls on the concrete wall and eventually has a miscarriage. The marriage ends as the couple breaks up. A politician uses his influence on the local citizens to get elected but later on engaging in activities that undermines the electorate post his holding for personal gains. He mismanages the funds meant to improve the life of the people who elected him while the people suffer. He grows his financial position while the citizens are languishing in poverty. A daughter goes abroad after completing studies and life becomes bright for her as she becomes prosperous in the future. She even gets married and the latter leads a comfortable. However, she forgets the family that strived through thick and thin to give her the life she is enjoying now. Despite the family attempts to get into contact, she distance for herself from them and neglects them. Jack the ripper was a case that went unsolved. The events of the case included attacks that led to brutal deaths. No one knew the cause of such brutality. The incident was about a serial killer who engaged in killing women. The reaper would mutilate the woman’s abdominal parts and remove their internal organs. The murders were never solved and thus resulted in a series of deaths. This was a cause that prevailed in the late 1880s at Whitechapel, London. (http://www.casebook.org/ripper_media/rps.carrington.html) The vampire of Sacramento is a story of a man named Richard Trenton Chase. Chase believed that through drinking his victims’ blood and his acts of cannibalism, his blood would not be turned to powder by the Nazis. The Nazis had planted a poison beneath his soap dish that was meant to turn his blood into powder. He had committed numerous first murders and was sentenced to death. (http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/serial_killers/weird/chase/index_1.html) The red ripper saga involved a Ukrainian serial killer named Andrei Chikatilo. Convicted of 53 murders mostly of women and children. Andrei had developed a way of approaching his victims on railway and bus stations and lured them using alcohol or money. On his capture, he was tried and executed by a firing squad.
