Some functions such as career progression and mentoring are some of the roles of HR professionals in today's organizational settings. The priority of HR managers and officers is staffing, employment, and recruitment of staff (HR’s Evolving Role…, 2008). However, today HR practitioners are performing roles such as performance management, policy development, and employee communication. In addition, HR professionals have adopted other responsibilities such as employee counseling, and account administration, which helps in utilizing the full potential of the resource managers. The other roles currently performed by HR managers are organizational development and legal compliance. In addition, HR managers enable organizations to perform efficiently and compete with other businesses. Technology plays an important role in several organizations and the HR departments are currently engaging in human resource information systems. The systems help in the performance and development of the entire organization.

The factors, which have contributed to the changes in the HR profession, are technological advancement, competition, and the need to utilize the innovative potential of every employee. The development of modern technology affects all departments in any organization, especially HR. human resource information systems management is a vital role played by HR professionals in daily activities. Keeping employee data and any other information requires the HR staff to be conversant with computer knowledge and many of the application software (HR’s Evolving Role..., 2008). Competition is nowadays a challenge to many organizations as everyone strives to take the organization to a higher level. Competition, therefore, has made many organizations make use of all the staff including the HR professionals to help in brainstorming and giving ideas for the positive progress of the company.

Innovation is very important in ensuring the growth of organizations and the production of quality products for consumers. The changes in the HR profession have allowed organizations to tap the skills of many of their employees through training and talent development (HR’s Evolving Role..., 2008). Motivation also allows employees to come up with new ideas since they can get support from their employer to present and implement such creative ideas. Unlike in the past when the role of HR practitioners was staff management, things have changed and their roles have increased.

The HRM has responded well to the changes by adjusting and incorporating various roles of the HR managers. Organizations allow their Human resource managers to do many functions by creating various job categories relating to Human Resource management. Some of the categories of jobs include recruitment department, strategic HRM, and HR information systems among others, which help in diversifying the role of HR professionals. The various roles assist the organization to utilize all the talents of its employees and promote its growth. Read More
