She/he should be able to gather information, assist with the scrutiny of ongoing political development, and translate them to capture the intent and meaning of an original document. The political assistant should be able to obtain research materials from varied sources (Sapolsky et al, 97). A current example is evident in August 2013 when the American embassy issued a travel alert to the US citizens in and wanting to visit the North of Africa of the impending terrorist attacks originating from the Arabian Peninsula by the al-Qa’ida and associated organizations (travel.state.gov). 

            The main languages spoken in North Africa include French, Arabic, and English and therefore a candidate that has a high level of proficiency in these languages would be well equipped to carry out the duties of a political assistant in North Africa.

            The kind of report that a political assistant does includes the analysis ongoing development of the host country. The report should include writing press releases, newsletters, and mailshots; in addition, one should be accurate and concise. Appropriate reports raised by a political assistant in the embassy of the US in the North of Africa include the security of US civilians in North Africa and the political status of the North of Africa.

            I believe serving as a political assistant will greatly aid me to become a successful US diplomat. This is based on the fact that to be a successful American diplomat one is required to have analytical abilities, to demonstrate an interest in international relations, to be verbally fluent and concise, and to write quickly and well. I will acquire and sharpen these qualities as a political assistant in the US embassy in the North of Africa.
