Various countries throughout the world have engaged in efforts in the attainment of universal healthcare and basic form of education. Poverty has been considered as the main impediment in the attainment of universal healthcare and education. As a result of poverty parents are not able to offer the basic needs of healthcare and education to their children. Therefore the government plays an important role in terms of the provision of universal healthcare and education to its population. This is mainly done through the process of government funding. The government should ensure that its population is able to access healthcare and education for the economic success of such countries. Organizations such as Save the Children play an important role in so far as the attainment of universal healthcare and education is concerned. It is argued that every child as a basic right to access of healthcare and education. Hence these basic rights should not be denied to the children. These organizations promote the welfare of the children through universal education and access to healthcare needs (Holtz, 2008). Background of the Research Many countries globally have engaged in the process of ensuring universal healthcare and education. In cases of occurrence of conflicts in various countries children are considered as the most vulnerable. In this case various forms of organizations such as Save the Children come up in order to offer support and promote the welfare of children. Hence in many countries especially the poor countries healthcare and education is regarded as a priority. International community for instance the United Nations offers various support for the attainment of universal global education and healthcare. Education and healthcare play important role in the prevention of diseases, hunger while attaining economic development. Different programs have been established by various countries to provide economic assistance to poor household so as to ensure that children attend school and are able to access healthcare services. This has further led to the improvement globally in terms of education enrolment rate and the access to healthcare services. However, more efforts need to be involved so as to ensure universal healthcare and education is attained among various countries in the world (Connell, 2008). Aims and Objectives The main aim of the study was to explore the role and the benefits of universal healthcare and education to various segments of the population especially the children. The study investigated the impact of global healthcare and education within different segments of the population Research Questions 1. To what extent is healthcare and education considered universal? 2. What are the benefits of universal health care and education globally? 3. What are the impact of a universal system of healthcare and education? 4. Is global healthcare and education attainable in the contemporary society? Literature Review Universal Healthcare According to World Health Organization (WHO) universal health is considered as one of the millennium development goals. This is due to the fact that a health nation is considered as productive. In terms of global healthcare the main focus involves tools and technology for the delivery of global healthcare. In this case global healthcare is mainly focused on medical infrastructure for the purpose of provision of universal healthcare services. Medical infrastructure is essential for the attainment of universal provision of healthcare services. Medical infrastructure involves the both the availability of drugs and hospitals or healthcare provision (WHO, 2011). A lot of governments have engaged in funding of various programs in terms of hospitals and drug delivery for the attainment of global healthcare. There are various impacts of universal healthcare provision. Universal healthcare assists in generating a healthy and productive society. However, lack of universal health has negative impacts to the population in the sense that various disease that the population experiences will not be managed. In addition, lack of universal healthcare has diverse effects such as an increase in child/infant mortality, morbidity and a decrease in terms of life expectancy. The main challenge faced by various countries in the provision global healthcare involves the failure of the emphasis on healthcare design and delivery systems. Hence most countries are more focused on treatment as opposed to health. The provision of global healthcare is considered as a greater social justice for the entire society at large. Most poor countries are mainly faced with the challenge of provision of universal healthcare services due to poor policies and lack of commitment in terms of allocation of funds for the provision of healthcare services. Various organizations such as save the children with its basis in the United Kingdom have come up with various strategies that assist the children in terms of attainment of universal education and healthcare services (Connell, 2008). Universal Education Education plays an important role due to the fact that it assists in the process of preparation of individuals for global realities. In the context of Australia children are entitled to universal education and every child has a right to education attainment. The Save the Children Fund is regarded as an international non-governmental organization that assists in the promotion of rights of children in relation to education and healthcare. Therefore it was established in United Kingdom for the purpose of improving the lives of children through provision of better education and healthcare system so as to open up economic opportunities. The save the children also involves a global network that partners with various countries globally so as to promote the welfare of children while at the same time protecting their rights as children (Mahood & Satzewich 2009). Therefore such organizations such as save the children are essential in the attainment of universal education and healthcare. Through the various initiative the save the children sets out to secure education in terms of quality for various children in different countries for instance those children who are affected by armed conflict are assisted in the process of acquiring quality education. This initiative is therefore important in ensuring the provision of quality education to children irrespective of their circumstances. In addition, such organizations are important in terms of creation of a strong voice for the children that ensures that they are able to access quality education and healthcare services in their respective countries. In the occurrence of crisis or conflict such as that which was experienced in Gaza children are considered as the most vulnerable group. Therefore there is need for such organization to come up with efficient strategies that will assist in securing quality education and healthcare system. Research Methodology There are two major types of research methods that a given study can apply; qualitative and quantitative methods. Therefore this study utilized the use of qualitative method in order to investigate the problems and complexity that exist in the attainment of global healthcare and education. The main reason of using the qualitative method is due to the fact that it is non numerical in that it does not involve the use of numbers but rather it uses data such as words and pictures in the process of giving explanations and discovery (Lazaraton, 2008). Thus qualitative type of research relies on studying a certain type of phenomena in an open ended approach without prior expectation and theoretical explanations made through interpretations of several observations. Generally the researcher relied on the views of the participants and data collected largely comprises of words and texts from the participants. The main advantage of using the qualitative approach is the fact that the participant’s point of view will be reflected since it involves the collection of data from the participants and also the use of various observations to explain a certain experience. It enabled the researcher to acquire a comprehensive view of a certain phenomena involving a series of events. The approach also permitted generality as that outcome of findings uses multiple cases can lead to some form of replication (Lazaraton, 2008). The approach also involved certain shortcomings in the process of conducting the research. Therefore the major weakness of the qualitative approach is that it was not viable to make generalizations statistically form one or various number of cases to make conclusive evidence of the whole population. Therefore, in most cases the generalization of one case study may not apply across the study population as a whole hence not a representation of the entire population. Data collection Techniques In the process of data collection the study employed the use of questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaires: The study involved the distribution of questionnaires to the desired respondents. The respondent were required to complete questionnaires that involved the use of open ended questions so as to collect as much qualitative data as possible in order to get more information from the respondents and make the study viable. The respondents were therefore be provided with a sheet consisting of various open ended questions that they will be required to fill within a stipulated period of time. The main use of the questionnaire is due to its practicability, reliability and validity in the collection of data. The major advantage of an open ended type of questionnaire is that it enabled the researcher to collect more information as the respondents will be able to fill the questionnaire without any limitation (Creswell, 2005). Interviews: the main reason for the study to engage the use of interviews is so as to gain in-depth perspectives of the respondent’s feelings, attitude, knowledge, reasoning and motivations of the circumstance under exploration. However the respondents may be reluctant to share out information freely and therefore the need for the interviewer to possess certain interviewing skills that will be necessary in gaining more information from the respondent. The researcher employed the use of a tape recorder in the process of the interview with the consent of the respondent in order to ensure accuracy of the interview. The researcher also used an informal type of interview or unstructured interview in order to gain the respondents’ confidence and build a rapport with the respondent. Ethical Considerations In every research work there are various ethical issues that need to be considered in the process of conducting the study. The main purpose of conducting the research should be made known to the participant so as to gain support and the expected use of the research form the study also expressed to the participants. The researcher needs to uphold the confidentiality of the participants and this can be done through the use of numbers as opposed to using the actual names of the respondents. The confidentiality of the information gathered from the respondents should also be accorded a high degree of confidentiality so as to encourage participants to give in-depth information for the purpose of the study. The confidentiality of the data collected from the respondents should also be protected (Creswell, 2005). Data Analysis Data collection and analysis plays an important role in any form of research. Therefore the data collected was managed well in the data analysis stage. Due to the nature of the study involved a sample population the data collected will be enormous. The data collected comprised of the information gathered from the use of questionnaires, interviews and observations. The information gathered through the use of questionnaires was placed into codes, themes and categories for the purpose of classification of data. In regards to qualitative interview it is important to convert the audio taped information into text data for simplicity in an analysis of the data collected. The researcher also involved the use of computer software to analyze data depending on the factors such as the amount of database that requires to be organized and the need for inspection of every single word that was captured in the process of data collection. Findings and discussions The findings of the study were important in highlighting the importance of universal healthcare and education throughout the world. This was especially evident with the consideration of universal education and healthcare among children. Children in most cases are considered as the most vulnerable segment of the society. In this case the rights of children in regards to basic needs such as healthcare and education should always be protected. In the context of Australia various organizations such as Save the children are important in advocating for the rights of children in relation to education and healthcare. Countries throughout the world are therefore striving so as to achieve the aspect of global education and healthcare. Global Healthcare According to the study universal healthcare was considered as an essential aspect in the contemporary society. Health is regarded as one of the fundamental principles in the attainment of economic prosperity. In this case global or universal health entails that individuals within the context of the society are able to access healthcare services. This is especially true among children and expectant mothers whereby various countries are engaging in efforts in a bid to eradicate various instances of child mortality. The attainment of global healthcare especially among children involves the aspect of medical infrastructure and technology. Medical infrastructure is mainly defined in terms of constructions of hospitals and other medical facilities. On the hand medical technology involves the availability of various drugs for the treatment of different ailments (WHO, 2011). Common ailments such as pneumonia and measles are known to affect mainly children in many countries. Hence, in attaining global health efforts should be made in order to eradicate such ailments that affect children thereby leading to an increase in child mortality rates. In addition, the common diseases or ailments among children have been known to be preventable through the use of vaccines. Thus, global healthcare with the main focus on children involves the ability of a particular country to be able to prevent the occurrence of such diseases that can be prevented through the use of vaccines. This will ensure that children are adequately protected against the occurrence of such diseases that have been known to highly contribute on the increase in child mortality rates. Furthermore, quality healthcare services should be made available to expectant mothers for the purpose of reduction of child mortality rates while at the same time protecting the health of women. In general terms the study was important in highlighting the benefits of universal healthcare within the context of a particular society. Healthcare is essential as a healthy country is able to realize various types of growth inclusive of economic growth and development (Porter et.al., 2008). Global Education The study was significant in highlighting the importance of universal education globally. In many countries there is the experience of lack of completion of education among children that impacts negatively on the lives of children and the society at large. Healthcare is regarded as a basic human need or requirement. Different countries throughout the world have engaged in the process of prioritizing education as the most important aspect in children. Lack of completion of school among children is the main contributing factors to high illiteracy levels. The role of government and non-governmental organizations is considered significant in the attainment of universal education. Different countries are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that every individual has access to education as an important aspect of their lives. The government therefore plays an important role of offering funding to schools in a bid to promote universal education to children. On the other hand the study was important in exploration of the significant role of non-governmental organizations in the attainment of global education. NGO’s such as Save the Children with its basis in United Kingdom was regarded as a foundation in protecting the education rights of children. This is especially important in cases of war leading to the displacement of children and disruption of their education. Such organizations engage in the process of offering education as essential rights to children affected by such conflicts such as war. This allows the children affected by conflicts such as war to continue to their education despite the circumstances that are facing. These non-governmental organizations work together with various countries in the process of ensuring that the goal of attainment of universal education is attained and children are able to continue with their education as opposed to engaging in labor or war (Mahood & Satzewich 2009). Challenges in Attainment of Universal Healthcare and Education The research found out that despite the efforts of various countries in the attainment of universal healthcare and education there is various challenges that act as impediments to the efforts. Poverty was discussed as the major challenge especially among developing countries. As a result of poverty the goal of attainment of universal healthcare and education has not been achieved to the fullest. Poverty is therefore a major challenge in the provision of healthcare and education. In addition poor policy making is also another factor that is considered as a major challenge in achieving global healthcare and education. Poor policy making is attributed to the factor of poor governance. In this case lack of effective policies has been critical in attaining healthcare and education prospects throughout the world (WHO, 2011). Conclusion Universal healthcare and education are considered as important pillar in the society. Hence, various countries are engaging in efforts that will realize the attainment of global healthcare and education. According to WHO healthcare is considered as a fundamental human right. The right to education and healthcare is significant among children. This has further led to various organizations such as Save the Children to engage in the protection and promoting the rights of children to education and healthcare. However, the attainment of universal healthcare and education is faced by various challenges that act as impediments. Therefore there is need to more research that will assist in the provision of solution to the challenges in the attainment of universal healthcare and education. The rights of children to education and healthcare should be protected. Therefore more organizations should come up in a bid to ensure the attainment of universal healthcare and education especially among children who are considered as a vulnerable segment of the society.
