Professional goals Personal/ Professional goals The desire to expand my knowledge and to improve my skills is my professional goal into the Public Health program and into Walden University. I have competed undergraduate and graduate academic programs in nursing but feel that specialization will improve my contribution to the nursing profession. The desire to play a more active role in the nursing profession such as policy development for public health is the key motivator to my choice of the field.

The program will expand my opportunities for working with non-governmental organizations and government agencies in research activities and policy development and implementation programs. I am interested in Public Health program with the aim of specializing in Community Health Education Promotion. Completing the program will empower me to directly serve the underserved and impart knowledge where people lack knowledge on the importance of healthful living. Attained potentials will also help me to work with stakeholders such as government agencies and non-governmental organizations for policy and strategy development and implementation towards better health.

Academic experience I completed my nursing and midwifery studies in England, an opportunity that exposed me to people from different cultural backgrounds and widened my perspective of people’s health care needs and effects of culture on care provision. I then moved to the United States where I completed my undergraduate and graduate studies from the University of Phoenix. I completed the undergraduate program in the year 2002 and the graduate program in the year 2005 and later began my PhD but floods, which forced my relocation, terminated the studies.

Extensive social responsibility that includes taking care of my niece and my ailing mother has also been a challenge to my studies. The strain has however reduced as my mother is currently in a nursing facility and my niece is an adult, in college. These explain my better potential to focus my studies and research process and complete the PhD program within the stipulated schedule. Research experienceMy research experience is limited to academic research at my earlier programs. My background knowledge in the nursing profession and my experience in public health however form a strong basis for my research activities in the PhD program such as identification of problems in public health.

Work/ Other experience I am currently working with a Medical Mission group and we travel across the Caribbean and South America. Our work involves identification of people in need and meeting their needs. I have also worked as a bedside nurse and as a nurse auditor. I have also been a health care proxy for my mother and this has improved my decision-making potentials in the health care environment. Personal quality My personal qualities include accountability, approachability, and dependability, as I am always available to meet people’s needs.

I also have outstanding interpersonal skills that allow me get along with people. I am also a person of integrity and this has established me as a role model to my peers. Rationale for selecting Walden Walden University is the suitable institution for my academic goals and me. The flexible scope of its online program and the reputable faculty that it has explain this and will help me to manage my schedule towards meeting academic needs and to receive guidance into completing the program and mentorship in public health.

I prefer the online program because it will not interfere with my current work.
