This article provides great foundation in understanding the dynamics of school programming for the prevention of addictions.
Marilyn Jensen helps the readers including me to understand the addiction and induced addictive behaviors as the consequence of addiction. She stated the addictive behaviors are divided into three important categories which include physiological model, disease model and social learning model. Further in the article she writes about the importance of these models in schools. She emphasizes on school prevention programs which are health focused and promotion programs. The author also describes the implementation process of the above stated models in the schools.
This article sends a message across to the prospective counselors at schools and those working with the children. They seem to have wealth of experience in the field of substance abuse and counseling needs of women in the criminal justice system. They have written this article focusing primarily on the needs assessment approach. This is a peer reviews journal article. The quantitative research method is used in the article. Mixture of interviews and survey responses are used as part of the research method. The study on the women helped them to be open about their views on mixed-gender treatment settings.
This article provides the implications of practice, limitations and directions for future research on this subject. This is an evolving subject therefore; authors have tried their best in voicing the treatment of substance abuse women population in criminal justice system.
