The author states that sex defines male and female biologically and the concept is the same in every culture. It is quite difficult to compare and critique articles when both of them made sense each arguing reasonably about the predicament of their respective genders. For the male, the points that were raised maybe not that often told but they were nevertheless valid. Indeed society has a lot of expectations from the male gender.
For this cause, there have been many movements advocating for the rights of women, especially in the last two decades. Many international actors such as the United Nations have been at the forefront in urging governments to take adequate measures to ensure the protection of women rights.
Many travesties are working as prostitutes (Kulick). Like the charity girls, survival is a result of having sex with men. Moreover, “the military regime had made it difficult for travesties to appear openly on the street in female clothing- males who did so risked being arrested and subjected to prolonged humiliation and torture” (Kulick 142).
There have also been efforts to ensure that the rhetoric of gender roles is in a way modified so that women do not appear like weaker sex. I am going to highlight on women's issues in development projects and some of the emotions it has spurred over the last few years under the summary Women in Development (WID) and Gender and Development (GAD).
