All accounting students are expected to acquire the necessary skills to fit in this career. An accounting student as well as an accounting professional requires various skills to survive in the industry. These skills include both hard and soft skills that will steer these individuals forward in the accountancy profession (Ramlall and Ramlall, 2014). However, high school students mostly overlook the soft skills, which is wrong.

For the case of the accounting students, Ramlall and Ramlall (2014) indicate that the expectations of the present day employers has changed especially in terms of the soft skills of the accountants. In this case, students are expected to acquire the skills that will see to their integration of foundations of accounts to accounting problems. Among the soft skills that are fundamental for the accounting students and professionals include interpersonal relations such as communication skills that involve oral and written speech, presentation of content as well as listening skills (Ramlall and Ramlall, 2014).

Problem solving and team building skills are also soft skills that give professionals an added advantage as accountants. More still accounting professions must acquire hard skills that involve the technical knowhow and the experience of accountancy (Ramlall and Ramlall, 2014). These skills are fundamental for practicing accountants as they have to display their knowledge on the fundamentals of accounting. As the president of Beta Alpha Psi, I recommend that all of you put more emphasis on soft and hard skills expected of the accountancy profession.
