Importance of Family in My Life - Essay Example

The love I have for them is so great that I cannot imagine living without them in my lives. This is the reason that once my siblings were brought into our home, I took it upon myself to take care of them and always be there for them no matter what. The fact that the twins were not my blood siblings has never deterred me from treating them as such. When it comes to their extracurricular activities, I have always put my life aside including spending time with my friends in order to ensure I attend the activities.

For example, Gregory has baseball, soccer, and wrestling and Lydia has dance, volleyball, lacrosse, and soccer. I am very proud of the fact that I have never intentionally missed even one of their games. I have always faithfully attended and even cheered them on whether they are performing well or not. There are a few occasions I remember dragging some of my friends to attend these activities as well. They are still young and hence require a babysitter to stay home with them. I have always done the entire babysitting I can manage and have immensely enjoyed myself doing it.

This is so because it gives me time to catch up with their life, learn their latest obsession as well as keenly listen to their whining which comes a lot when they do not get their way. I spend a lot of time with them when possible and I like being their role model and teaching them morals and ethics. This needs acting as a model and through actions as well which is not an entirely easy thing what with peer pressure and adolescence calling. My siblings have always taken for granted the fact that I sacrifice a lot for them as a big brother but I have no complaints about that.

The fact that I enjoy being and acting as a big brother, their guide and protector cover up for the lack of appreciation and notice on their part. I derive happiness from making them happy and this is satisfying enough.
