Dr. Mahfouz is a very peaceful and loving physician for the dwellers of Drown cities. Mouse has one hand and she a trained physician. Tool is a Genetic Engineer of human, hyena, tiger, and dogs among others.

Plot: The Drowned Cities is about the American Post Apocalyptic that had been destroyed by the ravages of the global political and climatic change. Mouse and Mahlia have been rescued by Dr. Mahfouz from war. Dr.Mahfouz sends Mouse and Mahlia for food. In their mission to get food, they meet Tool who captures them and forces Mouse to go and look for medicine as he hold Mouse hostage, threatening to harm them if Mahlia fails to bring medicines as requested . On returning to her home, Mahlia realizes that (UPF) United Patriot Front has come to the village to look for Tool.

She arranges a violent escape for Dr. Mahfouz and herself. After the soldiers had returned to Tool, Mahlia betrays Dr. Mahfouz in an effort to lead the UPF to a haven that was in the North. Due to Malia’s action, her village was burnt down, and her neighbor enslaved as the doctor got killed by the United Patriot Front. Tool gets recruited by the UPF as Mouse is separated from Mahlia. The remaining story is based on the rescue attempt of Mouse (Bacigalupi, 2013).Touchy areas: Dr. Mahfouz trains Mahlia to be a physician assistant despite the fact that Mahlia has one hand, killing of Dr.
