These simulations range in cost, fidelity, and functionality. Many simulation systems have the ability to mimic detailed terrain, equipment failures, motion, vibration, and visual cues about a situation." (Salas and Cannon-Bowers, 2001, p 471). In the training of military and civilian pilots, three essential learning theories such as behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism are employed. One of the major concepts which guide the design of flight training simulators today is that "transfer of training is highest when the similarity of the training and transfer situations is the highest this is the governing principle for most simulators that are built." ( Adams, 1979). Therefore, simulation training can be comprehended as one of the most effective and practical methods of aviation training which corresponds to the utility of learning theories in the training of civil and military training. Simulation training reflects the most advantageous outcomes of learning theories and it has a long history of application in several areas of training. "Simulation is pervasive. Simulation is not a relatively modern development attributable to technological and mathematical advances.

Simulation has a much longer history." (Vincenzi, 2008, p 4). Thus, simulation can also be best applied in civil and military training and the application of simulation training in these areas relates to the significant learning theories of the day. There are three important types of simulation training as practiced in civil and military training today and they are 'live' simulation, 'virtual' simulation, and 'constructive' simulation. The simulation training methods are closely related to the three learning theories as behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism.

"However, in designing and developing simulation courseware, it is found that all these three learning theories are inter-dependent." (Juhary, p 4). In modern military learning, one finds a clear illustration of behaviorist pedagogy, although there is a strong view that there is a change of learning theory behaviorism to constructivism in military and civilian pilot training. In fact, the application of simulation training in aviation training corresponds to the utility of learning theories in military and civilian pilot training.

In the modern world, where technology determines the conduct of wars and aviation, the application of simulation in aviation training including the training of civil and military training is indubitable. In fact, the future application of these theoretical methods of training is more stimulating and the principles of the learning theories are useful in improving training that makes use of advanced simulation techniques. The relationship between learning theory and simulation training is apparent and the advancement in simulation training can enhance its application in aviation training.
