Introduction This essay is an argumentative essay. Major objective of the essay is to give opinion and argue on the thesis question by realizing the facts that are shown in the documentary film named “2 Million Minutes”. This documentary film effectively portrayed how the students from Republic of China, India and United States spend their school days. 2 Million Minutes explores the different habits, attitudes, behaviors, lifestyles and ambitions of these students. The major argument of this essay is based on the education system of America. However, the documentary film also brings up the wonder if the students of United States work hard enough to score good marks in exam and grab the opportunity to get success in future career. Discussion The documentary film “2 Million Minutes” is an effective film and provided a strong message attached to it. The Chinese and Indian students work hard to perform well in exams and get chance into better colleges or educational institutions. On the other hand, the American students do not work as hard as the Asian students in Studies. American students spend 1500 hours in front of Television and 900 hours in the classroom. It is an important and interesting statistics to consider because the students of maximum Asia countries used to give their major time and hard work behind education and study. The Chinese and Indian students work hard and devote maximum time in a day behind studies comparing to the American students. It is identified from several survey reports that despite the hard work and seer devotion, the Asian students find it difficult to achieve the opportunity to get education from better colleges. Asian students scored 34% in the math proficiency. This percentage is considered as the highest percentage of any race in the 12th grade. Therefore, it can be stated that in spite of scoring higher percentages and marks, the Asian students are getting deprived to grab the opportunity. On the other hand, the American students are getting accepted by the colleges that they specifically want to attend. It is not acceptable as the Asian students are working hard and give their full effort in studies to fulfill their dreams and meet personal career objectives. It is true that people may have several opinions, but looking into the facts that are portrayed by the documentary film it can be argued that Chinese and Indian students deserve more things and opportunities in life as they seriously work hard comparing to the American students in order to fulfill their dreams. According to the interview of Tim Draper; the venture capitalist of Silicon Valley, the education system of America is breaking down. This documentary film follows the argument with several facts. The most amazing and interesting one is that more than fifty percent of the American students do not take mathematics beyond one year in Geometry and two years in Algebra. It is quite shocking. The demand of this particular subject is significantly increasing around the globe. Several geometric, algebraic and calculus calculations are required in several big projects. Limited knack of students towards mathematics is seriously affecting the education system of the country. It is an important fact. It is true and cannot be denied that major talented and skilled professional come from this part of the globe. But, several political and economical issues create various difficulties for the Asian students to capitalize on the potential opportunities. The education system and concept about education varies from a country to country. American students generally devote themselves in their sports and jobs since their childhood. However, in case of education these American students are slightly behind comparing to the Asian students. It is true fact that in terms of employment or getting admission in a desired college or university the American Students are always successful. On the other hand, the Chinese and Indian students do not get effective opportunities in their respective countries due to several issues. The American students do not like longer school hours, but in terms of job and sports they try to give their best and 100 percent effort to their works. Economic advancement and political stability of the country help the American students to get admission in better colleges. Students from China and India in American colleges enjoy vast amount of learning and high stakes testing. However it is not considerable that the students of United States are lazy. They have the interests in several extra curriculum activities apart from study. Therefore, it can be stated that the American students already do hard work. But they do not love to participate in long class hours. On the other hand, students of India and China devote their life in education as the parents of the students motivate and prepare them for good and prosperous academic and professional career. Majority of the Asian students try to give their 100 percent in studies. However, lack of exposure in their respective countries force the students to go foreign countries for the purpose of higher education and professional career opportunities. India and China are one of the developing and emerging economies around the globe, but still the opportunity for several types of talents and skills are still lacking. On the other hand, America is considered as the one of the developed countries around the globe. The country is considered as the superpower in terms of economical position and scenario. The government of United States of America has introduces several facilities and has taken several initiatives in order to reduce the rate of unemployment. Therefore, several students can make their hobbies for income source. This is the major reason behind these facts and issues. On the other hand, in terms of extra curriculum activities the Indian and Chinese students are facing difficulties to grab opportunities comparing to the American Students. Recent financial crisis and economic recession changed the scenario of global economic environment. Limited disposable income of people, low purchasing power and poor economic growth of several developed and developing countries forced several governments to change their economic policies. According to several survey reports, it has been identified that recently the students of United States of America are performing well comparing to the past years. In addition to this, several Asian students are facing huge competition from these American students in educational or academic field. Most importantly it is quite true those talented and intelligent students from Asian countries generally try to go for American universities and colleges due to lack of opportunities in their native countries. The Indian and Chinese students generally work hard comparing to American students. On the other hand, the American students generally get better opportunities in spite of limited hard work in studies due to the above reasons and facts. American students can avail several potential opportunities in their life to make prosperous and successful professional career. On the other hand, the Chinese and Indian students follow straight line in studies. They never used to deviate from their major aim and goal due to lack of options and potential opportunities in their countries. For example, talented Indian students are facing several types of political, legal and economical barriers, such as quota system, corruption and unaffordable education fees. The Chinese students are facing several types of legal barriers like frequent change in policies. Therefore, the students are finding it difficult to get right exposure. On the other hand, the students of America can think about several options in their future career due to political stability of the country. The students of America used to effectively focus on watching and planning. They unnecessarily do not hard work until and unless they can get some value out of those (UCA 1). There are several advantages of both approaches, but the American students avail significant benefit due to several future opportunities, acting and working smartly in life. Conclusion The documentary film “2 Million Minutes” is an effective documentary film that provided a strong message attached to it. It is highly understandable that there are huge differences between the education systems in India, China and The United States of America. Students of India and China generally prefer in-depth study. They give their 100 percent in studies as their parents guide them to do so. On the other hand, American students do not love to spend long school hours as they prefer to take interest in several extra curriculum activities. Despite the hard work, the Asian students find it difficult to get the opportunity to study in renowned colleges and universities. On the other hand, American students get the opportunity to study in their preferred colleges. It is the economical advantages and political stability of US that helps the students to grow in their preferable fields.
