EXHIBITION PROPOSAL By Student’s Name Code+ Course Name Professor’s Name University’s Name City, State Date Exhibition Rationale Exhibition shows are of significant importance to every artist. The artists use these shows as an opportunity to display their products to their audience as well as a market avenue for selling their products. With the exhibitions, artists create awareness of their artwork to their audience as well as other clients (Whitfield et al., 2011). Hence, various exhibitions are held almost everywhere in the world. In Australia, for example, much effort has been laid down in the organization and hosting of exhibition shows, and more emphasize put on artwork (Philo et al., 2015). In the University of Melbourne in Australia emphasize has been placed on the preservation of culture by hosting artist's exhibition events annually (Throsby et al., 2010). With this occasion the Australian culture is conserved and passed on to the next generation, this is because the exhibition presented dates back from early years to the present time (Bindman et al., 2010). Also, the shows help to display the Australian culture to the rest of the world as the events are publicly displayed. Thus, this event is viewed as well as being attended by people from different places around the world (Greenland, 2013). The exhibitions also help in promoting unity among the local people since it brings them together and reminds them of their culture in the form of art. By being involved in these exhibitions the Australian local people gains the trait of coexistence and oneness in the society (De Alba, 2010). The exhibitions, on the other hand, help in enhancement of creativity and innovation in the art industry. With the display of different artwork, each artist can learn from the tactics applied by his competitor. It in turn results in modification and production of high quality and modern art products. Consequently, the exhibition shows lay the ground for socialization as many people of different cultures both the artists and the audience can interact with each other as they get clarification of the artist work (Van House, 2007). The exhibitions also act as a source of wealth and revenue to the host country. The exhibitions act as a source of income to the government from the taxes charged, and foreign exchange is encouraged from the people who attend the event. Also, this is a source of wealth to various business people who work in restaurants, market, and shops. As the audiences in the exhibition show frequently go to shops and restaurants to buy things such as books and food respectively. With this, the store and restaurants can earn a living from the people who attended the show (Grodach, 2011). The proposed exhibition will also help in building up the art curriculum at Melbourne University as all the new concepts and ideas given out by the guests will be recorded, and the university lecturers may use the concepts and ideas while teaching artwork in lecture halls. The exhibition will also act as an avenue of remembering and appreciating the work of past artist who died yet left outstanding artwork (Rickenmann, 2005). The proposed exhibition would also enhance the development of Melbourne University and the region at the large. It is because the proposed exhibition would promote the development of the area in that; it would lead to the development of roads and houses in the region. The proposed exhibition also would show the various work of art students from the Melbourne University thus portraying a real picture of competent skills produced in the university. It would in turn attract more students from different regions especially those who may what to study artwork (Kovecses, 2006). However, the proposed exhibition may be faced with some challenges and if the challenges are assumed and not attended they, may result to complete failure of the proposed exhibition (Aronowitz, 2013). One of the common challenges that may face any proposed exhibition is the lack of fund to run the exhibition show. Each show, both an exhibition or a trade show, requires capital to pay the guests, host people in shelters and the provision of basic needs just to mention a few of them. Thus, it is of importance that the proposed exhibition first be organized well. Thus, the organizers much take measures to raise fund to run the exhibition until the last day. They may be able to source the fund from organizing contributions, requesting grants from the government, engaging many stakeholders such as banks and other organizations. Also, the exhibition organizers may host a marathon even to raise the events fund. Low attendance also is another challenge that may hinder the success of the proposed exhibition. It may result in the lack of achieving the set goals, objectives, and visions because the audiences are the most significant people intended and without them then there would be no need for the proposed exhibition. Also, the proposed exhibition may encounter the challenge of increased theft during the exhibition period. It is because the native with evil minded may see the exhibition event as a venture for them to steal from the foreign audiences who have attended the exhibition (Macdonald et al., 2008). Therefore, the proposed exhibition should be able to encounter the challenges by enhancing that sufficient fund is collected from the available sources so as to be able to host the participants of the exhibition, provision of security, management of the events and provision of basic needs such as the supply of water during the exhibition period. On the part of low attendance level the Melbourne University staffs and exhibition organizers should enhance proper communication of the exhibition show this, would be of much importance since it creates awareness to the public and audience of the upcoming exhibition show event. The exhibition organizers may also increase the audience turnout by reducing both exhibition fee and the gallery rent charges. Also, they may promise to provide full security, free sheltering and provision of free food to the audience. With this, the audiences are lured to attend since they see that the exhibition would not be expensive to them at all (Adams et al., 2010). Similar Exhibitions Artworks being one of the fields that date back, and these exhibition shows have been in existent for an extended period. They date back in late 1770 as they were used to display artistic work as well as a reference for art students to learn from (Musser et al., 2015). Hence, various exhibitions shows have been previously hosted by the University of Melbourne in Australia. Also, various exhibitions have been held around the world to display artist's works. However, this proposal describes this current exhibition as different from the rest exhibitions ever held at the University. The exhibition has mostly emphasized the need for examination of student artworks from Melbourne University. Hence, they have enacted on measures that will enhance that all the students' exhibition displays are presented and assessed to by the visitors and the audience. This measure is enacted to help students display their artwork skills. Also, this measure will enhance that the students learn new artistic skills. The University also has enacted on strategies that would enhance the complete display of all students' exhibitions as well as inviting scholars from other countries so as to bring into lively the exhibition show. Additionally, the University has promised to offer free talks and lectures to the participants of the event so as to make the exhibition successive. By offering free talks and lectures to the audience will promote the sharing of artistic skills and ideas. The proposed exhibition is distinctive from others since previous exhibition the audience normally paid before attending a lecture or a talk by the guests. The current exhibition is planned to be a free talk and lecture since no audience will pay when he or she wishes to attend a talk or a lecture. Other than learning about artwork only like the past exhibitions, the proposed exhibition will be aimed at serving two purposes; that is, as an event to learn about artwork but also as an avenue to celebrate the works of past artist and appreciating their efforts and skills. Well-aligned Vision The proposed exhibition aims at promoting artists work more so those of the students in the University. It will help in the display of students' art skills as well as to learn skills from their fellow art students. The exhibition will also enhance socialization and interactions that will be enhanced by having free lectures and talks to the public within the University. It will be promoted by the sufficient space and free talks and lectures to be offered during the exhibition by promoting interactions and sharing of ideas from the audience to the lecturers and artists (Adams et al., 2005). Besides, the exhibition will help to enhance cultural exchange. It will be facilitated by the invitation of scholars and artists from other countries. Therefore, the proposed exhibition will help in realizing the vision of George Paton Gallery (GPG) by the preservation of information and culture using the artworks (Lewis, 2013). Culture exchange would also be promoted by the involvement of various artworks from artists in other regions such as Sam Taylor-Johnson, who is an artist from London. With his artworks the Australian people more so the Melbourne University students will be able to appreciate and learn the British culture. Thus the incorporation of various artists from around the world results into the intercultural exchange (Cameron et al., 2007). Target Audience The exhibition aims at reaching the Melbourne University students at large especially those in the field of artwork. This is to equip them with all round art skills that they may apply in the school, workplace and their life work. Also, the proposed exhibition targets to reach to various local people around the University with an aim of promoting artistic work. By doing so, the artistic work would find a market venture from the local people. It will also promote the artwork to the local people. It would be enhanced by instilling the artwork skills to the local people through organized free talks and lectures. The proposed exhibition will also reach out to the various scholars and artists whom may not be invited to the event. Also, it will reach to various people from different regions of the world. It would enhance the worldwide awareness of the existence of artwork exhibitions (Jung et al., 2012). To enhance a large number of participating audiences, the proposed exhibition aims at inviting the best, finest, and top artists such as Nick Ryrie, Sam Taylor, and Cherie Peele and make their invitations public. It will be able to increase the number of the potential audience to attend the event (Jung, 2005). Also, the proposed exhibition aims at implementing the various communication strategies to attract the full attention of the audiences. Among the communication strategies to be employed include short lectures, entertainment, body language and audience involvement during talks and lectures (Tatsi, 2011). An Information Panel The proposed exhibition is in agreement with the requirement of the University of hosting an exhibition in the institution. The University normally hosts an exhibition show every semester in an academic year. The event is based on an artistic theme that aims at promoting artwork among the Melbourne University students as well as to the rest of the world. The themes are normally changed from time to time so as each exhibition has a unique theme with an aim of promoting the artistic culture (Silverblatt et al., 2014). The proposed exhibition will aim at achieving the following set objectives: i. The proposed exhibition will help promote the artistic skills of the University students. It is enhanced by the exhibition of various artworks from early times to the present day. It helps to pass the artwork and skills from one generation to another. The artwork skills are also enhanced by the invitation of professional artists from all over the world who provide necessary art skills to the university students. ii. The proposed exhibition will enhance the appreciation of artwork. The proposed exhibition show will be of important to display the art work to the local community around the university as well as to the whole world. This will make people understand the need of art work not only by its beauty but also to the information and themes portrayed by artistic work. iii. The exhibition will assist in creating awareness of the existence and need of artistic work. The exhibition will help to show the whole world the need of artwork by its preservation of cultural values of people. iv. The proposed exhibition will try to incorporate the indigenous Australian understanding of things in the artwork. The exhibitions help the indigenous artists to put their ideas in artwork, for instance, an artist may make art that depict the lifestyle of Australian indigenous people in the artwork. Thus, enhancing the understanding the past people lifestyle. v. To enhance participation by the various audience from all over the world. It will necessitate the advancement of artwork as a result of sharing ideas and skills with each other in the exhibition show. vi. The proposed exhibition will be aiming at enhancing togetherness among the Australian people and the rest of the world. It will be promoted by various invitations of foreign artists such as Sam Taylor-Johnson from London as well as various audiences from other parts of the world. It would lead to togetherness as thy will be able to mingle freely exchanging ideas and thus appreciating each other. Hence, the proposed exhibition is of great importance to the University students in acquiring artwork skills but also to the community at large since it helps them appreciate artistic work as well as understanding its importance. Also, it necessitates the sharing of ideas from the visitors, artists to the local people and students (Pitt et al., 2011). With the attainment of the set objectives, the proposed exhibition will be in a position of displaying the intended theme of enhancing and promoting artwork as well as people culture. Also, this will bring about appreciation of artwork as well as motivating the university students and audience to invest in artwork as well as the devotion of their skills to advance the artistic skills. It will also help promote the realization of the vision of the proposed exhibition of enlightening the university students and the world as a whole of the need for artwork. Artists’ Biographies Nick Ryrie Nick Ryrie a former student of the Swinburne University of Technology studying a degree in Arts and Craft. He is one of the upcoming artists born in Melbourne Australia. Additionally, Nick has been able to advance his art profession by painting in form the of repetition approach. With this, he has managed to paint many artworks among them are the rooftop art space painting. Nick has participated in many exhibition shows among them is the 2013 and 2014 exhibition shows in Melbourne University. During these events, he displayed his artwork that had a theme "The Purpose of This". During these exhibitions, his artworks impressed a large crowd of the audience as his artwork seemed to have been computerized though his artworks are from his skills and personal knowledge. He now lives and works in Melbourne Australia. Sam Taylor Sam Taylor was born on March 4, 1967, in London and schooled at Beacon Community College. She started her career as an artist in 1990 by exhibiting fine art photography. Being involved in artwork, she was assigned the task of producing video portraits by the National Portrait Gallery in 2002 more specifically David Beckham video portraits. Sam Taylor became more popular by the production of her artwork entitled "crying men" in 2002. Taylor is currently one of the highly regarded geniuses in artwork in London, and she is also a Young British Artist group member. Taylor is married to Aaron Johnson and lives in Babington House with their two daughters Wylda Rae and Romy Hero. Cherie Peele Cherie is also another artist who has participated in various art exhibitions. She is currently studying at Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and works in realms of sculpture. She, together with other artists such as Natalie Turnbull and Emma Collard, have collaborated to produce artwork entitled Ustopia. The central theme of these arts is to help in bringing paradise imagery to the audience. They usually apply artwork that portrays the paradise lifestyle. Thus, they are capable of making their audience create vivid understanding of how paradise seems to be like. Most of the artwork by Cherie Peele shows that she prefers more of team artwork. An example of Peele artwork includes a handcrafted mobile octagon which is a representation of a Monk House Design. Media Release Melbourne University exhibitions are one of the most influential events that equip the student with artistic. The proposed exhibition will be of great help to the University and the community as a whole because of the involvement of various professional artists such as Nick Ryrie, Sam Taylor, and Cherie Peele, who will enlighten the students as well as other audience with artwork skills. With the enlightenment, both, the students, and the audience will be able to produce more high quality and modernized artwork (Fritsch, 2011). The Melbourne proposed exhibition would promote the enlightenment of the students together with the audience by offering spacious halls. Besides, the lectures and talks by the guests will be free of charge thus everyone will be welcomed, and no one in the exhibition will be hindered from attending and listening to the talks and lectures (Silver et al., 2010). Nick Ryrie, for example, will help the students to understand how to create space art using their minds. It will in turn enhance more production of high quality and modern artwork. With his artwork, the student will be motivated and made to realize that mind artwork is real, and it is possible for them to make theirs too. Sam Taylor, on the other hand, will help the students to learn about her artwork and devotion. The University students will be in a position to enquire and learn about film and photography art. She and Cherie Peele would be in a position to motivate the female artist students by showing them that the artwork is not gender based but for everyone (Betterton, 2013). Cherie Peele will help the students understand how to create artwork that helps to bring understanding to a controversial thing. It will necessitate the students with the require information of producing artwork that would help bring an understanding of something that is yet to be experienced. Cherie will also be able to instill in the students with the need and advantages of teamwork. The student would be able to appreciate teamwork from the success achieved by Peel from the team the working with other artists such as Natalie Turnbull and Emma Collard. Exhibition Budget The following is an estimated exhibition budget derived to estimate the amount that an individual artist may be charged during the exhibition show period (Lee et al., 2010). It is inclusive of all the charges such as rental charges, fee and equipment fees. Table 1: Exhibition Budget Item Unit per price Amount Printouts. Different sizes and formats Free Data Projectors. $60 per week $240 DVD Players. $10 per week $40 Flat Screen Monitor $40 per week $160 Headphones $10 per week $40 Audio $10 per week $40 Rental hall. Spacious Free Wall hangings. $2 $20 Poster. $5 $100 Flyer. $0.03 $80 Introduction pages. $0.03 $100 Exhibition fee. Entrance and main gate $650 Gallery Rent. Main and entrance rent $350 Artist fee. $200 $800 Deposit and bond $50 Contingency. For emergency $350 Total amount. $3020 The exhibition fee, equipment hire and gallery rent are derived from George Paton Gallery website. The fifty dollars bond and deposit amount is subject to a refund provided the exhibition hall is vacated as it was before the event took place. Various artists are encouraged to bring with them their exhibitions so that to necessitate cooperation and coordination with the University staff. By doing so, the artists will also benefit since the university personnel will give them assistance that they may require. The artists are also assured of maximum security and safety within the exhibitions. Hence, there is a guarantee of safety of their artworks. Risk Management Strategy The proposed exhibition aims at providing competent art skills to the University students as well promoting artists' products. Hence, it is of great importance for the application of the risk management strategy. This policy aims at mitigating all the risks and threats that might be foreseen in the business or organization (Dorfman et al., 2012). The strategy is of great importance to the University's exhibitions since the risk management strategy will enhance the university to identify, assessing and managing risks that may not be foreseen by the organizers of the exhibition which would result in negative impact to the audience and also portray a negative depiction of the artwork. By implementing this strategy, the exhibition organizers will be able to identify the various risks that if not attended to would distract the event. To determine the risks they, may carry out investigations, carry out researches of previous exhibitions and learn from their failure (Saunders et al., 2006). Also, the exhibition organizers may be able to identify the risks from professionals and experts such risk managers who would help them with detailed information about the various risks that may be encountered in the process. After the risks are identified the exhibition organizers should follow an assessment process. This process involves measuring the impact and vulnerability of the risks identified. With the evaluation of the risks, the exhibition organizers will be in a position to know the relevance of the risks to their set objectives, theme, and vision. If the assessed risks are not critical then, they will have no adverse effect on the event. If the risks are found to be relevant to the theme, objectives and vision then, they should undergo the next stage of risk management strategy (McNeil et al., 2015). After assessment of the risks, the exhibition organizers should establish various ways to prevent and solve the risk before it occurs. These measures may be derived from the use of an expert who has knowledge in risk management strategy. Also, the organizers may engage in a focused group discussion with the participants of the exhibition to identify the various appropriate measures to control the risks. Finally, the exhibition organizers may select the best alternative measure to prevent and solve the identified risks in the proposed exhibition. The alternative selected should be the best of all and cost efficient measure. It will help to solve and prevent the risks and threats that may occur as well as being cost saving measure. The exhibition proposal also suggests that the event be insured from various forms of risks and threats such as theft, fire and vulgarly from an insurance company in agreement with the risk management strategy. It would be of importance since taking insurance cover would necessitate quick compensation of the destroyed or lost things during the exhibition period. Consequently, this will enhance continuity of the exhibition in case the insured risks occur (Power, 2008). Hence, the risk management strategy is of much importance to the proposed exhibition since it ensures continuity of the exhibition without worry that there might be distractions that may lead to a failure of the exhibition. Risk management strategy also necessitates the realization of the exhibitions goals, theme, objectives and visions by detecting and hindering the occurrence of threats and risks during the exhibition period.
