This paper discusses the history of the Chinese dance and my view in the same in a clear and outright way.
Dance in China is an art form that is highly varied. Dances are used in rituals, public cerebration and other ceremonies. It is apparent that the official 56 ethnic groups in china each has its folk dance. In my view, this is practical as it is a way of expressing themselves and their culture that is unique. The author portrays some dances such as the use of long sleeves to have been recorded in the early periods of Zhou Dynasty. Kefun also says in his book that the remarkable Chinese dances of all time are the Dragon dance and Lion dance (Kefun, 5-6).
The author shows that the dance in Chinese was depicted from their practice of pottery in the Neolithic period. Groups of people at this time would be seen holding hands while dancing. It was also evident that in the early times people of the Getian clan would dance in threes with oxtails in hand. They would also stamp their feet as they sung. The sorcery and shamanic rituals were associated with primitive dances. It is clear that an early character of Chinese sorcerer represented dancing with shamans. The author described their dancing as a means of communication between gods and men. Another dance evident was the rain dance which was performed at the times of drought. The application of various dances in their way of life shows that they embraced art (Kefun, 12-14).
The Rites of Zhou who was an ancient Chinese text recorded some important dances in the early period. One of the dances recorded was the six dances that entailed the six eras of China. Kefun shows that these dances were performed as ritual offering to gods, heaven or the ancestors. He was known for his efforts of flood control where sixty-four people danced with fur caps and white skirts. It was a dance
