The preferences and aversions however are developed through experiences with influence of our beliefs, expectations and attitudes (Clarke, 1998).
Another factor which may influence these habits are the economic determinants, these include income, cost etc. The cost of food is one of the basic determinants in the food choice. The nature of cost being prohibitive or not depends primarily on the socio economic status and the income of the person. There is a greater chance that the groups which have low income will consume diets that are unbalanced, especially lower intakes of foods like vegetables, fruits etc. (De Irala-Estevez et al, 2000). Although being part of a higher income group does not mean that the quality of diet will automatically increase, rather just the choice.
Physical determinants like access and education also have influence on the food habits. Accessibility is a major physical factor which influences the food choices, accessibility in turn is dependent on factors like geographical location, transport etc. foods which are healthy are inclined to be more costly when available in cities or towns rather than when they are bought from supermarkets located on suburbs or outskirts.
The education level also has an influence of the dietary behaviour in adulthood according to various studies. On the other hand the knowledge of health dietary habits and its actual implementation does not have a strong correlation; possessing knowledge about the healthy habits does not result in an action because the individuals are usually not sure about its application.
