For quantitative data, summary statistics (sample size, sample mean, and sample standard deviation) were reported, along with outlier screening. Quantitative data were also checked for normality and required assumptions of methods used. Relationships between quantitative IVs and the DV utilized correlation and regression. Relationships between categorical IVs and the DV (coded categorically) used cross tabulation.
The final regression model was produced using the stepwise method of multiple linear regression. Appropriate outlier screening, significance testing, residual analysis, and collinearity testing were used.
Relationships between variables were also considered. The following table reports descriptive statistics for the amount charged by men and women separately. It also includes descriptive statistics for the amount charged by each educational level.
Further analysis of spending by cardholder demographic category was conducted using cross tabulation. The distributions of spending category (1=1000s, 2=2000s, 3=3000s, 4=4000s, 5=5000s) for each demographic category are shown in tables four and five below.
First, sample statistics were tested against population benchmarks for cardholder demographics. The benchmarks are listed in Table 7 below. In addition, the results of the statistical test and confidence intervals (C.I.) for each demographic variable are shown.
Next, change in cardholder incomes from the previous year were tested for significance. Amounts charged from a previous month to a current month were also tested. Tables 8 and 9 below show the results of the tests and a C.I. to estimate the average change.
Finally, this section of analysis considered the effects of cardholder demographics on amount charged. The ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
