The debate of same –sex marriage ranges from the talk-show hosts to political commentators, same-sex marriage is an extremely loaded topic. Consequently over the past few years, public debates regarding the legalizing marriages between individuals of the same sex has not only changed but also intensified. Those participating in the present debate have come up with such words as “same-sex” couples to replace “home-sexual couples” or “gay couples” so as to describe this issue (Gane & Miller,2012).
In fact, of late, this controversial issue has been described as an issue of “civil rights” instead of another issue of “gay rights”. Nevertheless, to date, researchers have disregarded these terminological transformations as well as their possible impact on public support for marriage between 2 same sex individuals. Same sex individuals encounter obstacles to health care that comprise of concerns related to disclosure and confidentiality, treatment, discriminatory attitudes and stigma, restricted access to health insurance and health care and most frequently a limited perceptive of their health care perils. In addition, same –sex individuals as well as their relations are unfavorably affected by the limited legal recognition of their associations-an issue having key implications for the health and well being of same-sex individuals as well as their families. Substantial harm has emerged from the lack of health care and financial protections provided to legal spouses, and children are affected by the shortage of protections given to families in which the couple is married.
