2. The situationwhere I ever employed self-handicapping is when I tried to evade responsibility in fear of a negative outcome. As the assistant group leader and having been chosen to do a presentation of a section of our project, I felt inadequate since I feared the crowd. Doing a presentation in front of the class had always been a challenge to me. I wasnot confident enough and I feared any negative comment from the lecturer and the students. Our group ended up with low points. The other situation where I employed self-handicapping was when I withdrew from an IQ test over the fear of failing and confirming to my friends that I was not intelligent. The overall result of this is that I missed the challenge since everybody else enjoyed the exercise even though the test was so challenging.
3. Verbal communication is so much limited in its scope thatit requires the aid of non-verbal for communication to become more effective (Neijenhof, 1994). There is interdependence between the two modes of communication such that every time a person communicates, the two modes of communication are all involved. For example, when one nodes or makes a gestureduring a conversation, these aid us in interpreting the message.Secondly, the meanings produced when we use non-verbal like facial expressions in stressing some words are different from when the words are not stressed. When communicating with our colleagues, it is very important to be keen on how the message is passed because this is what will determine our interpretations (Neijenhof, 1994).
