Thus, according to this assumption, preventing deviance from occurring requires that an individual is surrounded by an environment that purely promotes virtues (Inderbitzin, Bates and Gainey, 542). Similarly, on the event that deviance occurs, the response should be to accord the individual a positive environment that will reshape behavior into a positive virtuous outlook.
According to this assumption, people are inherently bad, but they have the free will to transform. The causes of deviant behavior according to this assumption is the selfish/evil constituting the inherent nature of humanity, which is oriented towards causing an individual to deviate from the expected norms (Kaplan and Johnson, 10). This being the case, deviance of behavior can be controlled through developing the culture of charity and reciprocity of good deeds. This is because; the innate selfish nature of individuals is exacerbated by the selfish leadership that promotes achievement of individual goals at the expense of others. Therefore, the appropriate response to deviance behavior according to this assumption is to counter the behavior with a charitable culture that will eventually convert the free will into focusing on doing good (Inderbitzin, Bates and Gainey, 547).
Deviant subcultures refers to certain sections of the society that deviates from the social norm, such that they adapt a totally different behavior than the one originally held by the society, and goes ahead to cultivate this new and different behavior as their core norm (Kaplan and Johnson, 10). Therefore, deviant cultures are the basis of bringing change and transformation into the society, since their transformative behavior comes to challenge the status quo by instilling into the section of the target society their new culture and way of life, which may eventually find its way into the mainstream society (Inderbitzin, Bates and
