In order to work for the vulnerable persons in the community, there are various skills that one must have. However, the skills must coincide with the requirements and needs of the particular group of people (Hardcastle, 2011).
Hence, before taking part in the work, one has to research and evaluate the community that the vulnerable people he or she is targeting to work for is like. The process of research and evaluation requires the utilization of various methodologies that can include an interview with the said persons, and visiting the community they reside in person. Once it is done, the person is enlightened and knows what is required of the work. Thus, he or she can make the appropriate decisions regarding the work. The person also gets a chance to prepare in advance (Chesnay & Anderson, 2011).
Communication is of an essence when it comes to working with the vulnerable residents in the community. Communication is fundamental in the social context in spite of who, when, where, or how. As it has been stated, one cannot evade communication. Every aspect of working with the vulnerable residents in the community requires communication, hence, the appropriate communication skills. Appropriate communication skills can be developed through the right communication strategies. Visiting the vulnerable residents at their homes builds trust. Through trust, communication is geared to obtaining solutions for the person. The home provides the ideal environment to communicate. The worker must also keep their word so as not to break the trust. Through communication, the worker can manage themselves appropriately. The objective is set through communicating with the person.
