Download file to see previous pages... Both of us went to a renowned Chinese restaurant near the home of my friend to try the real Chinese food. The Chinese seem to eat everything with chopsticks. You won’t see forks and knives there. For having appetizers like soup, you would be given small ladle. The bowls, plates, and utensils were completely wrapped in plastic that indicated that these were neat and clean. You would take the items that you require and return the extras to avoid overcharging. It is common in China to order different menus for different persons on the table and share the meal. So, we ordered the special Chinese rice with chopsticks at the restaurant along with crusted Chinese pie and beans. No wonder, the taste of the Chinese food was entirely different from the one that I used to have back home. The meal was low in spices, and contained ingredients that I couldn’t recognize. However, my taste buds had never sensed such a delicious dinner. I am quite thankful to my Chinese friend for his hospitality.
The conflicts of cultural values and norms exist in nearly every generation. The lack of inter-generational understanding is creeping up with every new generation due to technological development and the way we live our life. I happened to discuss the cultural chasm with two people who belong to different generations as compared to my own. I am 42 years old, and I exchanged my views on cultural values and society norms with my 22-years old nephew, and 65-years old my father.
According to my father, the most significant thing about his generation was related to the diet. The people of his generation used to eat natural food as much as possible.
