She does not know how to relate well with people whether it is her colleagues or patients. She lacks compassion and empathy which she insists she has made up through excelling as a cardiologist performing ground breaking surgeries and working with high initiative and intelligence that impress her attending even though it irritates them at times.
Her social aversion crawls down to even the children as she has no place or time for them and hence aborts more than once just to avoid becoming a mother which destroys her relationships with her fiancée and even husband both of whom were doctors in the same hospital. Her lack of socialization skills make her work even further ensuring that she is busy even though her lack of compassion and empathy ends ups hurting her patients. This lack of compassion in human feelings makes her detached from her patients and therefore even when her patients die, she has no real emotions and the issue does not affect her unlike her colleagues (Wilson 134).
The role played by Sandra Oh in Greys Anatomy portrays most roles played by Asian actors and actresses. Majority are given the roles that indicate intelligence or an interest in education. Even when the characters they play are just extras or in the background like waitresses or dancers, the story told is that they are using it to pay their way through college or Masters’ degree.
