Download file to see previous pages... The following discussion seeks to evaluate the concepts of sociology on the basis maturity and adulthood, with a review of the available theories on maturity at a personal perspective (Best, 2007).
Theorists view that the current global society lives within the challenge of identifying the stage at which people in their early 20s can be associated with the maturity stage. Author Rebecca Raby identifies that youths are unable to adapt changes in the demography as they resist embracing adulthood after turning to maturity at the age of 20. She argues out the Western community has been unable to overcome the challenge posed by youthful individuals resisting adoption to the adult stage, and it has persisted for the last two decades (Brock, Thomas, & Raby, 2012). Arguably, I perceive that the concept of infantilizing is detrimental to maturity and the concept of adulthood, and it can be associated with the resistance. The concept enables the superiors in from a certain gender, social class, or even a race to express discontent with the activities of the inferior groups (Yancy, 2010).
According to the lecture, the process has continually changed the perception of individuals in the society, and they have in turn adapted the ill-concept of infantilizing as though it is a norm that they should honor rather than disagree with. Currently, the Western society argues of having deviated from all anti-social practices that have for ages limited the freedoms of the minority groups in society (Best, 2007). However, I perceive the fact that the youth past the teenage stage have shown resistance to adulthood is an indication that they are used to the ill-concept of infantilizing that restrains their freedoms, and holds them as inferior groups who are unable to address vital situations in their lives.
