Download file to see previous pages... The individual in society is a sociological concept advanced by Georg Simmel (Spykman 85). It entails to the aspect of individuality in society. It is the concept that asserts that human beings tend to belief they are better than a given group or society in general. Human beings belief that they special therefore they value themselves and this makes them to be cognitively conscious about society. They can remove themselves from group that they do not want to belong into at any cost. It is the nature of the individual to fight against the pressure from society to conform to its ways and lifestyle.
The self in the city sociological concept was advanced by Georg Simmel and it basically claims that life in a big city has some considerable effects on the mind of a given individual. Simmel asserts in this self in the city concept that the life in the city has a permanent irreversible change on the mind and the self of any human being who lives in that respective city. Simmel does not focus on the negative effects but establishes truth in the positive transformations also that can occur as a result of living in the big city.
The dialectical approach by Simmel on this social network concept analyses the aspect of individuality that manifests itself in the social grouping that occur in each society. This means that there exist two types of manifestation of the self and the mind in congruence with group membership. The first is the rational group membership while the second is the organic group membership. In the organic group membership, the individuality of a single person is compromised since he/she has to abide to some group regulations and policies. This could be in the lifestyle of the group members or their respective associates.
